Fix: Spectrum app is not working on Samsung TV

It can be quite frustrating when the Spectrum app is not working for Samsung TV users. 

From our research, we found that Spectrum not working could be caused by something as simple as a malfunctioning Wi-Fi connection, server outage, or a pending update. The good news is that each of these problems is easy to solve.

This article discusses a step-by-step guide on how you can go about fixing such a problem.

Fix 1: Power-cycle your Samsung TV

Power cycling is the easiest way to fix the Spectrum not working on Samsung TVs issue. Follow these steps:

  • Unplug your power cable from the power socket for at least 60 seconds.
  • After unplugging, press the power button of your TV (not your remote) for 30 seconds.
  • Once the remaining 30 seconds have elapsed, plug your TV back into the wall socket.

This works by draining all the residual power left in the TV, allowing it to reset itself. A reset will not happen by just switching on and off using your remote control.

After plugging the Samsung TV back into your power source, switch it on and open your Spectrum app. You should now be able to watch your favorite shows.

Fix 2: Confirm if Spectrum app servers are down

If, after power cycling, Spectrum is still not working on your Samsung TV, it could be that there is a server outage.

A quick way to tell if Spectrum’s servers are offline is to try accessing the streaming service from another device, such as your phone, computer, or TV. If they don’t work, then it is most likely an issue with the server or your account.

Reinstalling your Spectrum app can help fix this problem if the previous options have not worked. To reinstall, you have to delete the existing app first. 

Follow these steps:

  • Press the Home button on your remote to go to your Samsung TV’s Home Screen.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Click Settings on the top right corner of the screen.
  • Find Spectrum and click Delete. You may need to click Delete for the second time.
  • Turn your Samsung TV off and then on.
  • Reinstall the Spectrum app again and open it.

At this point, you’ll have to log in with your credentials.

Fix 3: Reset Samsung TV Smart Hub

Samsung Smart Hub is your TV’s customizable app store. When you reset the Smart Hub, all the information on your account is removed, and your settings are returned to factory defaults.

To do this:

  • Click the Settings/Menu button on your remote.
  • Scroll to Support.
  • Go to Self Diagnosis.
  • Click Reset Smart Hub.
  • Enter your TV’s PIN code. If you haven’t changed it, enter 0000.

Fix 4: Resetting the Wi-Fi router

When your router isn’t working correctly, you won’t be able to connect to the internet. In some cases, you may be able to connect to your wireless network but not the internet. In other cases, you can’t even connect to the network.

A reset can solve these issues. Simply follow these steps:

  • Unplug your router from the power socket.
  • Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Plug back in the router and let it power on.

Check if the internet is working by launching the Spectrum app on your TV. If not, connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network and try searching for anything on your browser.

If it works, try launching the Spectrum app on your phone or another device connected to the same network. In the event that Spectrum works on all those devices, then the problem is with your TV. Proceed to the next step.

Fix 5: Check your internet speed

Slow internet speed can hinder your Samsung TV streaming using the Spectrum app. You will need a download speed of at least 25-50 Mbps to ensure your Spectrum app works correctly.

Therefore, if Spectrum keeps freezing or won’t start at all, you could be dealing with very slow internet.

In this case, you need to switch routers with those that provide great speeds for streaming or talk to your ISP to check your speeds or upgrade your package.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Navigate to Support.
  • Select Update software.

Your Samsung TV will automatically self-update.

Once you update the Samsung TV OS, make sure to update the Spectrum as well to ensure that it remains compatible with your Samsung TV OS.

Fix 7: Reset your Samsung TV Factory

If nothing has worked so far, reset the Samsung TV factory settings through these steps:

  • Press the Home button on your remote.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Select General.
  • Select Reset.

You can also reset your Samsung TV’s network settings to ensure that there is no underlying network issue that’s preventing apps like Spectrum from working.
