If you have a smart LG TV, the most probable reason why Netflix won’t work is that you have a weak internet connection.

Confirm that the internet is working and that the speeds are stable by using another device e.g. your phone. If it is working, then it could be that you haven’t configured your TV’s internet settings yet.

Follow these steps:

  1. Press Home on your remote button.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Scroll down to Internet and Connections, then click on it.
  4. Connect your TV to the internet. If it is connected, ensure it is on the right network.
  5. Try opening Netflix to see if the problem resolves.
If the issue persists, you might have to talk to your Internet provider or upgrade your router.

2. Power cycle your LG TV

Have you tried switching your LG TV off and on again? Just like any device, switching it off and then on again usually rectifies the problem.

  1. Close the Netflix app.
  2. Switch off your TV and unplug it from the socket for a few minutes.
  3. Power off your router for a few minutes before plugging it back on.
  4. Plug back your router.
  5. Plug back your TV and turn it on.

Try opening Netflix to see if the problem has been resolved. If not, continue to the steps below.

3. Update your TV firmware

Update LG TV software

You probably bought your TV with the Netflix app already installed. In most occasions, the TV will update Netflix immediately after the first use and subsequently every time an update is available.

However, the auto-update feature does not always work. It could be that your TV failed to update the Netflix app, or the firmware version is too old to support Netflix.

In this case, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Settings on your LG TV (press the gear icon on your remote).
  2. Scroll down until you see All Settings. Click on it.
  3. Go to General.
  4. Click About this TV. All the information about the TV software should appear.
  5. Click Update if there’s an update.

Once you’ve updated the firmware, launch Netflix to see whether it works perfectly.

4. Uninstall and then reinstall the Netflix app

Sometimes, you just need to uninstall and then re-install Netflix to fix most of the issues. Some of the most common problems include a black screen and buffering due to a cache buildup.

Follow these steps to uninstall and then re-install Netflix:

  • Find the Netflix app on your TV, streaming device, or PC.
  • Click on Uninstall. Wait for the app to be deleted.
  • Go to the app store on your streaming device, PC, or Mac.
  • Search for Netflix and click it to open the details page.
  • Click Install.
  • Wait for the app to finish installing before you launch it.

Noteworthy, some countries don’t even have a streaming service. Therefore, chances are you might have set your Netflix or TV location to a country that isn’t permitted to stream Netflix.

To rectify this problem, follow the steps below:

  • Press the Home or the Settings button on your remote, depending on your TV model.
  • Scroll down to All Settings and click on it.
  • Click on General.
  • Click on Location.
  • Set the correct location.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Click on Netflix.
  • Go to your profile, log out of your account and then log in again.

This way, you are giving the Netflix servers a chance to recognize the location change.
