DStv is rolling out changes to its packages, its biggest product update in 15 years. The rebrand, dubbed DSTV Expect+, comes in the wake of MultiChoice’s takeover by the French media conglomerate, Canal+.
The rebrand also follows years of complaints from customers, especially sports fans, frustrated by expensive premium packages. Frustration over pricing has led to a high churn rate, with DStv losing millions of subscribers across Africa.
As such, MultiChoice’s Expect+ rebrand is designed to halt steep subscriber losses and give the company a competitive edge against streaming giants that are gaining a foothold in Africa. Below is everything you need to know about the upcoming DSTV package rebrand.
What is DStv Expect+?
DStv Expect+ is MultiChoice’s new visual identity for the DStv brand. The company will drop the iconic blue logo and adopt a black and white logo with the phrase “Expect+.”
In addition to the visual rebranding, DStv will revamp its packages. This will introduce a new lineup that will streamline the current packages.
According to DStv, the Expect+ rebrand will offer more content, especially sports and entertainment, while keeping the prices low.
Key changes to expect with the DStv overhaul
The major change with the DStv Expect+ rebrand is a revamp of its packages. The media company is introducing new packages: Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series, and Premium.
The Starter, Select, and Sports packages will replace the current Access, Family, and Compact packages. Movies & Series is a new stand-alone entertainment package, while the Premium package will remain as the top-tier offering.
In South Africa, the new DStv Expect+ packages will be priced as follows:
- Starter: R99 (approx. $6.17) per month
- Select: R299 (approx. $18.71) per month
- Sports: R399 (approx. $24.61) per month
- Movies & Series: R500 (approx. $31.26) per month
- Premium: R799 (approx. $49.34) per month
DStv is also introducing new channels as part of the Expect+ rebrand. These include Wethu+ (Mzansi and Canal+ content), SUPERSPORT KICKOFF (select football matches across different leagues, including the Premier League), M-Net Movies+, and France24.
Other new channels include M-Net Stars (formerly M-Net Movies), M-Net Legends (formerly M-Net Movies 4), and kykNET & kie, which replaces KykNET Lekker.
When is Expect+ launching?
DStv Expect+ is launching in South Africa on September 17, 2026. The media company will automatically migrate customers to the new packages with updated pricing.
The migration will occur in phases; new channels will appear immediately, but the old package name might still show on the account.
However, the changes will not affect DStv add-on packages, which will remain available to customers.
Currently, MultiChoice has only announced the rollout of Expect+ in South Africa. Rollout in other African markets is expected at later dates, which the company will communicate.
