Amazon has dismissed reports that it is considering reviving the reality TV show The Apprentice, once hosted by President Donald Trump, with his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
On April 29, 2026, The Wall Street Journal reported that the show’s executives are in initial discussions to revive The Apprentice.

However, an Amazon spokesperson, in a statement with PEOPLE, revealed that the show is not in active development.
“Any reporting on details of the show or names of potential hosts would be purely speculative.”
“Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for The Apprentice as a property,” the spokesperson stated.
Further, PEOPLE reveals that Donald Jr heard the idea of his returning to the show for the first time from the report.
The Apprentice overview
Donald Trump hosted and was the executive producer of The Apprentice from 2004 to 2015 for 14 seasons, which followed contestants as they competed to work for him as an apprentice.
The rights to the show are co-owned and produced by Amazon and the US president’s production company, Trump Productions, which produced the show alongside Mark Burnett Productions while it aired on NBC.
However, MGM bought the production company in 2014, and Amazon has since acquired it.
Amazon has been streaming reruns of the show, although it has been out of production for more than 10 years.
Additionally, It has been sold into syndicated streaming and syndication.
According to 2024 financial disclosures, The Apprentice still generates six figures with royalties of between $10,000 and $1,000,000 for President Donald Trump, which does not include the value of the show itself.
Why did Trump leave The Apprentice?

Trump left the show to focus on his political career in 2015 following comments he made about Mexican immigrants that led to NBC cutting ties with him.
Arnold Schwarzenegger then took over for one season in 2017.
Schwarzenegger revealed in an interview that the show’s ratings were impacted by an anti-Trump social media campaign, leading to his declining to host the show again.
“When people found out that Trump was still involved as executive producer and was still receiving money from the show, then half the people started boycotting it.”
This comes shortly after the release of a recent documentary by Melania Trump, dubbed Melania.
The documentary gives viewers a glimpse into the weeks leading to President Trump’s second inauguration.
