Apple is rolling out new software updates to make Apple TV 4K easier to use at home. These Apple TV 4K upgrades are designed for everyday viewers.
These updates, coming later this year with tvOS 27, aim to solve two common streaming problems: small on-screen text and missing video captions.

What new features are coming to Apple TV 4K?
The first big update is a new “Larger Text” mode for the whole system. If you sit far from your TV or have trouble reading small text, reading movie details or using the settings menu can be hard.

With this update, you can make the on-screen text bigger so it is easier to read. It works like the text-zoom feature on the iPhone, keeping menus neat and easy to use.
The second big feature is a smart tool called Generated Subtitles. Most professional movies and TV shows already have closed captions, but user-generated content usually does not.
If you use AirPlay to send a personal video from your iPhone to the television or watch clips shared by friends and family, you are often stuck without captions.

Soon, Apple TV 4K will use its built-in AI to listen to any video’s dialogue and automatically create subtitles on your screen.
If you are concerned about privacy, Apple says all audio processing and translation happens right on your Apple TV device.
No audio or data is sent to the internet or cloud servers to create the subtitles. After they appear, you can change their look by picking your favorite font, text size, and background color in the main playback menu.
Why some apps may not support the new Apple TV 4K features
These upgrades are helpful for most people, but there is something important to know before they launch. The automatic subtitles and larger text features depend on Apple’s own software to work well.
This means big streaming apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, which use their own video software, might not support these features right away.
If you use those apps, you may need to wait until the companies release their own updates.
These changes are an early look at what is coming later this year. Apple usually shows off its new operating systems at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is set for June 2026.
After that event, the testing phase will begin before the software launches as a free download for all compatible Apple TV 4K models in the fall.
