Disney Plus downloads not working? How to fix

Disney Plus offers its subscribers access to an impressive catalog of all Disney shows, Marvel movies, and so much more.

One of their main marketing points is that you can always download the content you want when you have the internet then save it to watch later when offline.

This feature is very convenient hence why it can be frustrating whenever your Disney Plus downloads feature is not working or, even worse, the titles disappear entirely from your downloads list.

However, it is probably a technical hitch that can be fixed in a few minutes. Below are a few troubleshooting hacks that can help.

1. Restart Disney Plus

Restarting your device or the Disney plus app works wonders where errors are concerned. This is mainly because the app could be malfunctioning due to a bug in another app or the phone itself.

By powering the device off, you will have closed all open apps and hopefully deleted any bug in the phone.

If you have an Android or iOS device, power it off like you usually would then on again. This step works for TVs too. If you still cannot access your downloads, move to the next step.

2. Clear the app’s cache

Clear cache

The problem with your downloads might result from a corrupted cache. To resolve the issue, you will need to clear the cache.

Assuming you have an iOS device, follow the steps below;

  • Go to Settings
  • Scroll down until you see the General icon, then tap it
  • Click on iPhone Storage
  • Look for Disney Plus and then select it
  • Tap ‘Offload App’
  • Go back to the homepage and search for the app store
  • Type in Disney Plus on the search bar and then reinstall it

As for those with Android devices, follow the steps below;

  • Go to Settings
  • Scroll to Apps and Notifications, then select it
  • Tap on Disney Plus
  • Press on Storage and Cache
  • Tap on the transparent cache icon

3. Confirm your payment details

If you are met with error 4 or 9 every time you try to access your downloads, then the problem is payment-related.

If you are sure you’re not yet due for payment, check to ensure that your card has not expired. When you’re on a free trial and your card expires before billing, the app will automatically glitch.

If your card is OK, make sure that you have keyed in the correct login credentials and billing information.

Note that regardless of whether you are using the same account on multiple devices, downloads in one device cannot be accessed in another.

So, for instance, if you download a movie on your phone, that movie will not be found in your TV’s download list.

4. Confirm the device limit

Disney Plus devices

Disney Plus limits the number of people who can watch simultaneously using one account but on different devices. If the number exceeds the allowed limit, you cannot access any content, including your downloads.

In this case, you can wait it out until one person logs out so you can take their spot or change the password and only give a few people.

If you can log in to the app but cannot download any new content, then the problem might be that your account has reached the download limit.

The only way you will be able to download more content is if you delete unused downloads from several devices.

5. Change your location

Some countries do not allow certain content to be viewed within their boundaries.

So if you have traveled and keep seeing error 73 on Disney Plus, then the content you are trying to view is not permitted in the country you are in. This phenomenon applies to already downloaded content too.

Try using a VPN to disguise your device’s IP address current location as this is the only way you will be able to access forbidden content.

Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until you’ve traveled to a different location before you try streaming the title again.

6. Check your device compatibility

If you were able to download the Disney app, then you are probably wondering what device compatibility has to do with this list.

The thing is, if you are running on old software and the Disney Plus app evolves through multiple updates, then chances it will not be able to run on your old software.

You need to upgrade your software to the latest available version to avoid such glitches that could lead to Disney Plus downloads not working.
