Google is making TV settings easier to handle. Its new Gemini TV voice control feature started rolling out this week, and owners of certain TCL Google TVs are the first to try it.
Instead of hunting through menus with your remote, you can now speak naturally to adjust picture and sound. This update addresses frustrations like a screen that looks too dark during a movie or dialogue that is hard to hear.

For example, you can say “Set picture mode to Sport,” “Increase the bass,” or “The screen is too dark.”
Gemini understands plain English and makes the changes for you. You can also ask it to optimize settings for live sports, open the display menu, or set a cinematic feel for movie night.
This feature builds on earlier Gemini tools for searching shows and getting recommendations. It is a step forward for regular viewers who want their TV to look and sound right without hassle.
Which TCL models qualify right now?

The rollout began on June 11, 2026, for select 2025 and 2026 TCL models in the United States. Compatible sets include the QM9K, X11L, QM9L, QM8L, and RM9L. Some reports also mention QM7L and RM7L. The TV needs Android 14 or newer.
TCL is the exclusive partner for the first 60 days. This gives their customers a head start before the feature reaches other Google TV devices like the Google TV Streamer, Hisense models, or Onn sets. These devices will get the update around mid-August.
How to get the Gemini TV voice control update
To get the update, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > System > About > System update on your TCL TV.
It will arrive automatically over the next few weeks for eligible models.
How to use Gemini TV voice control on TCL TV
Here is how to use Gemini TV voice control:
- Press and hold the microphone button on your remote or say “Hey Google” if hands-free is enabled.
- Speak your request clearly.
- Gemini handles both direct commands and problem descriptions.
At launch, the feature supports English in the US, with additional languages and regions planned for later in 2026.
Full Gemini AI responses are only available to users 18 and older. You will also need a compatible profile on your TV.
Google plans wider availability by late 2026 for more devices that meet basic requirements (Android 14+, sufficient RAM). This limited launch on premium TCL sets allows the company to test and refine the experience before expanding.
If you do not have one yet, it could be a reason to consider TCL when shopping for a new set with strong AI features.
