Several reasons can explain why volume is not working on your Sky Q remote. First, if you have not set up your Sky Q remote correctly, it may not control the volume on your TV.
Also, the volume will not work if your Sky Q remote is incompatible with your TV or cannot control the TV. In other cases, your remote may have a battery issue.
Regardless of the issue, you must figure out how to get your Sky Q remote to control volume. Here are several things you can do:
This guide is meant for remotes whose volume buttons are not working. If you can’t use the remote for anything, refer to our guide for troubleshooting a Sky remote.
1. Check the batteries
Sometimes, the issue may seem complex, but the solution is straightforward. When you have an issue with the volume button not working on the Sky Q remote, the batteries could have drained or damaged.
Therefore, consider changing the batteries and installing new ones. Once done, use the remote to see if you have fixed the issue.
2. Check for compatibility
Although you can program your Sky Q remote to control your TV, the remote may not be compatible with your TV.
The compatibility of the Sky Q remote with your TV will depend on the brand and model of your TV.
Sky has an ongoing list of compatible TVs. Newer TVs are more likely to be compatible with the Sky Q remote than older TVs. If your TV is over ten years old, you may not pair it with the Sky Q remote.
During the setup of your Sky Q remote, you must select your TV brand and model and enter the three or four-digit code displayed on the screen.
If your TV brand does not appear within the Find it for Me section, then it cannot be controlled by your Sky Q remote. Therefore, consider upgrading.
3. Set up your remote correctly
You must set up your remote again if you notice that the Sky volume control button on the Q remote is not responding.
If you have a Sky Q touch remote or Sky Q remote with Voice Control, do the following:
- Press and hold 7 and 9 on your remote.
- Continue holding until you see a flashing light on the remote.
- The light should flash four times.
- Once the light flashes, you have reset the remote.
- Press and hold 1 and 3 until the light flashes again.
- Select Next and follow the on-screen instructions.
The on-screen instructions allow you to set up the remote again.
Alternatively, if you have a Sky Q remote or Sky Q Accessibility remote, do the following:
- Press the Home button on your remote.
- Select Settings.
- Select Setup.
- Go to Remote Control.
- Select the type of remote you are using.
- Select Control your TV.
- Go to Find it for me.
- Allow Sky to search your TV brand.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
The setup is complete, and you can control volume using your Sky Q remote.
Another procedure you can use is as follows:
- Press the Home button on your Sky Q remote.
- Select Settings.
- Navigate to Setup.
- Select Remote Control.
- Select the remote you are using.
- Go to Control your TV.
- Select Find it for me.
- Allow Sky to search your TV brand.
- Select your TV brand.
- After selecting your TV brand, press and hold 1 and 3 together for two seconds.
- Enter the four-digit code displayed on your screen.
Try changing the volume to confirm that the remote can control your TV. If it controls your TV, select YES to exit. If not, select NO to try another method until you get the right setting.
4. Check the buttons
The volume on the Sky Q remote is not working because the buttons are stuck.
In that case, push and move the buttons to release them.
5. Use the virtual remote
Another way to get your Sky Q remote to control volume is to use the virtual remote on Sky Go. The virtual Sky Q remote is only available for Apple devices on the Sky Go app.
It gives you the perfect alternative as you wait to fix the physical remote. Do the following:
- Download and install the Sky Go app.
- Open the app.
- Make sure to connect your Sky Go to your Sky Q box.
- Press the Settings button in the top left corner.
- Under Devices, select Sky Q remote.
- The Virtual Remote will open.
You can now change the volume using the Virtual Remote.
