Peacock becomes the first major streamer to launch vertical microdramas

Peacock has become the first major U.S. streaming service to launch microdramas on its platform. The streamer is introducing short-form vertical video series, featuring 60- to 90-second episodes that are designed for smartphone viewing.

Microdramas have surged in popularity, with their bite-sized episodes and fast-paced plots attracting millions of viewers. The trend, which started in China, has spread far and wide, including Hollywood, and now, for the first time, on a major U.S. streaming service.

Peacock to offer unscripted Bravo microdramas

The Peacock microdramas lineup will include original, unscripted dramas from Bravo. NBC Universal has revealed that two dramas, featuring Bravo stars, will be available for the 2026/27 slate

The first of the shows is Campus Confidential: Miami, which will follow a group of college students as they tackle friendships, relationships, college life, and social media scandals. The series will feature Georgia Gray, daughter of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Heather Gray.

The second microdrama that will premiere on the platform is Salon Confessionals with Madison LeCroy. It will feature the Southern Charm star giving her clients makeovers as they share their most dramatic stories.

According to NBCUniversal, the two microdramas are the first-of-a-kind on a major U.S. streaming service.

Featuring personalities from the Bravo universe, these are the first official originals in this fast-growing format to be announced by a major US entertainment streaming platform.”

Scripted Microdramas from ReelShort

In addition to the original Bravo microdramas, Peacock will also offer scripted, vertical short-form series produced by ReelShort. These microdramas will be curated from various genres, including Romance, fantasy, melodrama, and young adult.

In addition to these microdramas, fans can also look forward to other popular ReelShort titles, such as Call Boy I Met in Paris, 30 Days Till I Marry My Husbands Nemesis, Duke with Benefits, Wings of Fire: The Dragon Slayer Is My Ex-Lover, Baby Just Say Yes, Undercover Prison King, and Love Me Bite Me.

It will be interesting to see if Peacock’s investment in microdramas will be successful. While short-form series are popular, they are also known for having poor and repetitive plots that make even the worst traditional TV shows seem appealing.

That said, this is the first time a major streaming platform will be investing in microdramas. Therefore, the quality might be something to look forward to.
