LG content store not working: Troubleshooting guide

Of late, there have been many complaints about the LG Content Store not working on Smart TVs. It doesn’t show up in some cases, while in others, it may take forever to load apps or doesn’t download apps.

So, how do you troubleshoot this problem?

Well, there are many ways to troubleshoot the LG content store. But first, you need to identify the origin of the issue. From our research, these are the most common causes:

  • Your internet connection could be unstable.
  • The memory is running low on your TV.
  • Your TV’s OS is out-of-date.
  • You have not set your region correctly.
  • LG is experiencing server issues.
  • You are using a VPN or proxy server.

If you cannot install apps because of an issue with your LG Content Store, troubleshoot your TV to find a permanent solution.

How to troubleshoot LG Content Store when it is not working

If the LG Content Store stopped working, try the following steps to see if you can fix the issue.

1. Check your network

The LG Content Store requires access to the internet to allow you to download apps and games. If you have unstable internet or no internet at all, the WebOS app store will not work.

Therefore, diagnose your internet issues as follows:

  1. Unplug your devices (modem, router, and TV) from their power source. Do not disconnect your Ethernet cables when unplugging the devices from the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for about a minute then plug in the modem or router first and wait for the device to establish a connection.
  3. Plug in the TV once you see connectivity lights on the router or modem.
  4. Remove obstacles interfering with your network. The items may include routers using the same frequency or channel and household electronics like microwaves, monitors, and cordless phones.
  5. Connect the router directly to the TV using the Ethernet cable.
  6. Place your wireless router near the LG Smart TV to improve the signal.
  7. Conduct a speed test to ensure you have internet access. For example, a download speed of 1Mbps should help you access the LG Content Store.
  8. If you have data on your phone, connect to the internet using the hotspot mode instead of Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

It is also helpful to update your router’s or modem’s software if it is out-of-date.

2. Check your router’s DNS

Set the router’s Primary DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4. You can check and change the figures on your LG TV by doing the following.

  • Press Settings on your LG TV remote.
  • Select All Settings.
  • Go to Network.
  • Select Advanced Wi-Fi Settings.
  • Select the Edit button.
  • Uncheck Set Automatically.
  • Set the DNS to 8.8.8.8.
  • Select Connect.

Once you connect, go to the LG Content Store and see whether you can access the portal.

3. Check your region settings

The LG Content Store is unavailable because your location settings interfere with the Content Store or the Content Store is unavailable in your country.

You can change your region’s settings in LG WebOS by doing the following:

  • Press the Home/Smart button on your LG TV remote. A launch bar will appear.
  • Select the Settings icon in the top-right corner of your screen.
  • Select All Settings.
  • Go to the General Menu on the left of your screen.
  • Scroll to the second option labelled Location and select it.
  • Select Area Zip Code.
  • Enter your current Zip Code if you live in the USA.
  • Select Enter.
If you aren’t in the US, you will only be asked to select your country. Make sure to choose your exact region so that LG can set up a customized store for your area where every app works.

Your LG TV can update your location information automatically. However, if you want to change country information, do the following:

  • Select the General Menu and choose Location.
  • Select LG Service Country.
  • Uncheck Set Automatically.
  • Scroll through the list and select another country to change your region.
  • Select YES to confirm the changes.
  • Reboot your TV.

After the reboot, go to the LG Content Store to see whether you can access it.

4. Disable or enable VPN or proxy server

A VPN or proxy server may be why the Content Store is missing from your LG device. In that case, disable your VPN or proxy server and try again.

You may have to restart your router after disabling the VPN. You should now be able to change your region and access the LG Content Store.

5. Factory reset your LG TV

A factory reset will wipe your TV. It will delete your data, including installed apps and settings. However, it will allow you to start afresh and remove files that prevent the LG Content Store from working.

Follow these steps to factory reset an LG TV that runs on WebOS:

  • Press the Home/Start button on your LG remote.
  • Select the Settings icon in the top-right corner of your screen.
  • Go to General.
  • Scroll through the list and select Reset to Initial Settings.
  • Enter your TV’s password if you have set a password. But if the TV asks for a password and you do not have one, enter 0000.
  • Allow the TV to restart.

If your LG TV runs on Netcast, do the following:

  • Press the Home button on your LG remote.
  • Select Settings.
  • Go to the Options menu on the left.
  • Select Initial Setting.
  • Enter your TV’s password or the default 0000.
  • Select YES to confirm you want to reset the TV.

Fixing WebOS or Netcast on LG TVs

So, what should you do when the LG Content Store is not working? You can try troubleshooting the issue using different methods.

For example, check your network to ensure you have internet access or change your router’s DNS settings to 8.8.8.8. Alternatively, change your region’s settings in the LG TV.

If you have a VPN or proxy server, disable it or enable the software you do not have. But if everything fails, factory reset your LG Smart TV.
