No sound when playing Amazon Prime videos? How to fix

Have you been watching movies and noticed there is no sound on Amazon Prime despite having high-quality pictures? Audio or sound issues with Amazon Prime are common.

While there is no specific cause of this problem, there are several possible reasons behind it.

First, you may be using the wrong HDMI cable. HDMI cables can be used with older pieces of software or hardware without particular modification or adaptation.

However, additional capabilities can make them incompatible with some devices. As such, the cable will not transmit uncompressed digital audio and uncompressed video data from your digital TV, set-top-box, or computer monitor.

Second, the volume on your television may be low or muted. In that case, you need to check the audio setting and increase the volume.

Third, you have connected your Smart TV to an A/V receiver, but the receiver is off. To correct this, turn on the receiver.

The Amazon Prime video no sound problem may be annoying when streaming the latest movies. The following are other possible solutions for fixing it.

How to fix sound on Amazon Prime Video

  1. Restart the app
  2. Check cable connections
  3. Update the software
  4. Check your Audio setting
  5. Delete and reinstall the app
  6. Update your device firmware

Method #1: Restart the app

Some streaming problems occur because of low bandwidth or poor internet connections. That also means the problems are not related to your Amazon Prime service. To fix them, you need to restart your app, router, or modem.

Rebooting or restarting your device can fix many problems including sound issues. You need to unplug your device for a few seconds and then plug it back in again.

Method #2: Check cable connections

You are not hearing music or sound when playing Amazon Prime videos because of poor cable or HDMI cable connections. HDMI problems occur when inputs and On-Screen Displays work but not the HDMI inputs.

These inputs are responsible for transmitting uncompressed digital audio. A wrong cable can cause many problems including no sound, no picture, or both.

In other cases, you will see a no signal message on your source device such as Roku TV.

You can fix this problem by checking your cable connections. To do this, follow the steps below.

  • Ensure your HDMI connections are correctly plugged in.
  • Inspect your cables to ensure there is no breakage
  • Use a different HDMI cable. It is possible that you are using an old cable or is not compatible with your source device.

If you don’t have a good HDMI cable, we recommend that you get the iVanky 18Gbps cable.

A simple solution could be to allow the units to reset themselves. In other words, unplug them from a power source and power them again. Ensure your HDMI cables are connected throughout this process.

Method #3: Update your software

If your device is running on a software program that is not updated, it will cause display and sound problems. To ensure the device is running optimally, you need to update your software.

Method #4: Check your Audio setting

If you are streaming on Amazon Prime and it only shows pictures but no sound, it is possible your audio settings may be off. You should check your device’s audio settings to fix the problem.

One way of fixing this problem is to turn off DD+ (Dolby Digital Plus). To do this, follow the steps below.

  • Go to Settings on your Fire TV Stick or Amazon Fire TV
  • Select Display and Sounds
  • Navigate to Audio
  • Select Dolby Digital Output. Turn off DD+ and open the video again

Note that your receiver must support DD+ to get DD+ audio.

Method #5: Delete and reinstall the app

You may not prefer deleting an app because it means you will lose your data. Instead, you will insist on updating the app to keep your data intact.

But with technical issues such as no sound when playing Amazon Prime videos, you should delete the app and reinstall it again.

Deleting the app will delete its settings, cache, and data. Also, it can help you free up some space. After deleting, you should reinstall the app so that it can come with default settings.

If you are using the Amazon Prime app, this is how to delete and reinstall it.

  • Select Settings from Fire TV homepage

  2. We’ve been Amazon Prime customers for sometime, but now wanted to start viewing Prime Video on our Smart TV. Subtitles work but the sound doesn’t, please can you help.

  3. I was running out of options. I couldn’t get audio on certain programs. For instance, “Grand Tour presents Seamen” wouldn’t provide audio for either HD or UHD. But “Speed and Angels” worked just fine. I purchased “Joker”, and no audio. It didn’t matter if I used my Roku 4K or my Amazon Fire Stick. I had the same audio problems.

Method 4 worked. I don’t know why. My system supports Dolby Atmos. But apparently Dolby Digital Plus is a different bitrate.

    Thanks!
