Are you experiencing network connectivity issues or system bugs with your TCL Roku TV?
While a simple system restart may solve the problems, a reset is sometimes all you need to fix such issues. It removes menu preferences, pin lock, network connections, and parental codes and, therefore, restoring factory settings.
So, how do you reset a TCL Roku TV? The fastest way to do a hard reset is by using a remote. Noteworthy, the process is different depending on your TV model.
You can also reboot the TV if you do not have a remote or if it is not responding to the remote control.
How to factory reset a TCL Roku TV using a remote control
- Locate the Home button on your Roku remote
- Press the button and scroll down
- Select the System option
- Go to the Advanced Systems Settings option
- Scroll down to Factory Reset
- Click the Factory Reset Everything option
- Enter your passcode. The default code is usually 1234 if you didn’t change it. The master password is either 0423 or 0812.
- Click the Yes option to complete the process.
The process removes all the bugs and personal information. However, if the TCL Roku TV is stuck in a restart loop, you need a forced reboot.
You can as well boot up your Roku TV if it is not responsive to the remote. The process may also apply if the on-screen demands are sluggish.

Resetting a TCL Roku TV without a remote control
- Remove all the cables on your TCL Roku TV except the power cord
- Locate the Reset button on your device (probably at the back or bottom of your device)
- Press the reset button for 12 seconds (use a paper clip if you cannot press it with your finger)
- Remove the power cord as you continue pressing the button
- Plug your TV back on and release the button when the startup screen shows
Unlike the first option, you will not lose important settings. The process only eliminates normal glitches.
TCL Roku TV is stuck in Recovery mode
If you have an older model or the TCL Roku TV stuck in recovery mode, you need to reboot the system. Note that rebooting will not delete all your data.
To reboot TCL Roku TV:
- Unplug your power code
- Wait for two minutes
- Plug it back
- Switch it on
It is worth noting that a reboot doesn’t fix all issues and that sometimes you may need to reset your TV.
What if your TV doesn’t have the factory reset option?
In situations where your TV has frozen or shows a black screen, you won’t be able to perform a factory reset using any of the options above.
However, you can still reset your TV using any of these options.
For TV models with a reset button
- Locate the recessed reset button on your TCL TV connector panel
- Using a thin object like a paperclip, press and hold the button for 10-12 seconds.
- Release when the status indicator turns dim. Your TV will power off.
- Switch the TV back on and follow the setup wizard.
For TVs without a reset button
- Press and hold the Mute and Power buttons simultaneously on your TCL Roku TV
- While still holding the buttons, unplug the TV from the power socket then plug it back in.
- Release the buttons when the startup screen appears on the TV
- Follow the setup wizard to finish the reset.
How to reset the network settings
Perform this reset if your TV is not connecting to the internet or if it isn’t recognizing a network.
To reset the network settings on a TCL Roku TV:
- Go to Settings > System
- Scroll to Advanced System Settings
- Open Network Connection Reset and select Reset Connection
A network reset removes all the data about your existing internet connection. To add a new network connection, launch the Settings app again and proceed to Network.
Select Set up a new connection and enter the new network’s details.
How to reset the audio and video settings
When encountering issues with the video or no sound, follow these steps to reset your TCL Roku TV:
- Launch Settings and go to System
- Select Advanced System Settings
- Select Factory Reset and then Reset TV Audio/Video Settings
Note that this reset will only remove audio/video settings. Read the information that pops up on your screen to ensure that you don’t lose important data.
What if a reset doesn’t work?
If you have tried all the steps above without success, consider:
1. Updating the TCL Roku TV software
Newer TCL Roku TVs will update automatically when connected to the internet if there is a new software version available. To check if your TV is running the latest software version, go to Settings > System > About.
2. Contacting Roku if the problem persists.
In some rare cases, you may still experience system lags after resetting and updating the TV software. The problem may be solved by a Roku technician. If your TV is under warranty, they will direct you to a Roku authorized expert.
Wrapping up
Resetting a TCL Roku TV is one of the best ways to remove system bugs. Although different models have different resetting approaches, the above options will solve most system glitches.
