Apple releases tvOS 27 Beta with new features for Apple TV

Apple has launched the first developer version of the new tvOS 27 Beta for Apple TV.

Phone and computer updates often get the spotlight. But this TV update brings practical changes that make streaming smoother, easier, and more enjoyable.

Apple is currently testing these changes and plans to release them to everyone later this year.

What new features does the tvOS 27 Beta offer?

Apple has added several new features to Apple TV, including:

  • Redesigned Podcasts app

The biggest news for most users is the redesigned Podcasts app. If you enjoy talk shows or watching video creators, the new tvOS 27 Beta makes it easy to enjoy them on your TV.

The app now has a smart download feature that keeps your favorite episodes ready. The menus are easier to use. This makes Apple TV a great place to catch up on your favorite internet personalities without using your phone.

  • Larger Text

Another helpful change is the new “Larger Text” option. Many users have said the text on Apple TV was too small to read from the couch.

With the new tvOS 27 Beta, Apple has added a slider in the settings app so you can increase the font size across the whole system.

Now, whether you are browsing movies or reading app names, this upgrade means you will not have to squint during movie night.

  • Liquid Glass

If you like a fast and responsive TV interface, you will notice a difference as soon as you turn on your device. The tvOS 27 Beta adds what Apple calls “Liquid Glass” visual changes. It makes the background look sleeker as it gently reflects what is on your screen.

Even better, updates behind the scenes mean your streaming apps open faster, the Control Center appears more quickly, and switching between family profiles is almost instant.

  • Better camera feeds

If you use security cameras with Apple HomeKit, the new tvOS Beta now supports clearer 4K camera feeds.

If your home app uses Apple’s new smart features, your TV can now show helpful summaries of what your cameras see. You can easily check who is at the door or what the backyard camera recorded, all from your couch while watching a movie.

Are the new features ready for download?

Right now, this early version is for app developers to test their code. It might be a little glitchy for regular use.

But regular users will not have to wait long. Apple plans to release a free public version of the tvOS Beta next month.

If you want to avoid bugs, the final version will arrive automatically on Apple TVs worldwide as a free update this fall.
