Sharp TV won’t turn on or off! Troubleshooting guide

The Sharp Aquos TV sometimes experiences problems with its power supply. When that happens, it won’t ON or OFF. In other cases, different things may occur.

For example, when your Sharp Aquos TV turns on but shows no picture, or the power light blinks continuously. While the issue may not be permanent, it could also mean some components are overheating, or you need to replace the power supply board.

If your Sharp Roku TV won’t turn on, you need to check whether it is overheating. When the circuitry overheats, your TV will turn itself off to reduce further damage.

Also, the batteries in your remote could be dead, making it unable to power the TV ON or turn it OFF.

Here are more troubleshooting steps you can take.

1. Check if the TV is receiving enough power

If there is no power to the TV or no red light, the device will not turn ON. You can troubleshoot this issue using the following steps:

  • Ensure you have connected the power cord to both the TV power connector and the wall outlet.
  • You should see an LED light in front of your TV panel when you press a button on the remote. If there is no LED activity, try using another power outlet or check your fuse box.

Other devices like a surround sound receiver, fans, or hair dryers could be interfering with your TV and preventing it from receiving enough power.

In this case, try turning OFF one device at a time to identify the one that is causing the interference. Once done, move it further from the TV.

If these options don’t work, then you need to get a new power cable that is compatible with your TV. We recommend this cable by HQRP.

2. Power-cycle the TV

When your Sharp Aquos TV fails to turn OFF, consider power-cycling it. Here is how:

  • Unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug back in the power cord.

Next, turn ON your TV and use your remote to switch it OFF and see whether it has solved the problem. You can also use the steps above if the LED is not responding or is too bright.

3. Check the sleep timer

If your TV keeps turning OFF, you may have turned ON the sleep timer. Make sure you have not turned ON the setting:

  • Press Menu on the remote.
  • Press the left or right arrow keys to highlight Setup.
  • Press Enter.
  • Select Time Setup.
  • Select Sleep Timer.

At this point, select OFF to turn off the sleep timer.

4. Reset your Sharp TV

You can try to solve the problem by resetting your device. Here is how to reset a Sharp TV that won’t turn on:

  • Go to Settings using your remote.
  • Select System.
  • Select Factory Reset.
  • Press the Play or OK button three times to start the reset process.

After the reset, you will have to set up the TV again. But the essential step is to determine whether it has fixed the initial problem. In that case, try turning the television ON or OFF using the remote.

5. Force your Sharp TV to turn ON

Here is how to force your Sharp TV to turn on:

  • Press the power button on the remote.
  • The TV will power up from standby mode.
  • If the power light glows red after using the remote, press the power button on the TV.
  • The step will remove the device from standby.

When your TV is in standby mode, it can fail to turn on when you press specific buttons on the remote. Thus, you can force it to turn ON by pressing the power button on the TV.

Alternatively, consider power-cycling it and try again. The above steps will also work if you want to know how to turn on a Sharp TV without a remote.

You can fix a Sharp TV that does not turn ON or OFF in different ways. First, check whether the power light blinks.

If it does, unplug the TV from the wall outlet, wait for a few seconds, and then plug it back in to see if it fixes the issue.

Sometimes the TV can fail to power up because you are using a remote with dead batteries. In that case, consider replacing them.

Also, check to ensure your television is not overheating as this can cause a failure in the power supply unit.

  1. Sorry to inform you, that in my case LC60 835M works fine when started but gets off after 15 min initially. But later it gets off & after 5 min & gets on after 45 sec. I think some part is getting hot.
Can you predict which part might be faulty so that I can replace it on my own? There are 2 transistors with heat sink K15A60U. Please let me know whether the above transistor is faulty or it may be something else
