Amazon is giving Prime members a free week of HBO Max. The offer appeared on Prime Video Channels this week, with no promo code and no contract required.
The timing lines up with a strong run of new HBO Max programming. The DC series Lanterns just premiered, and Hacks and The Pitt are both building toward what looks like a big awards season. HBO Max doesn’t run trials directly through its own site anymore, so this Prime Video offer is one of the few ways to try the service for free right now.

It’s also a bit of a comeback. Amazon offered this same seven-day HBO Max trial through Prime Channels in the past, then quietly dropped it. Now it’s back on the hub, open to Prime members again.
How to claim the HBO Max free trial
You’ll need an active Amazon Prime membership to use the offer. If you’re not already a member, Amazon separately runs a 30-day free trial for Prime itself, so new members could combine both and watch for free for well over a month.
Once you’re signed in, the process is simple:
- Go to the Prime Video Channels hub and find HBO Max
- Open the HBO Max landing page
- Choose the free trial option instead of subscribing directly
If you already pay for Prime, adding HBO Max works the same way, and the first seven days cost nothing.
What you’ll pay once the trial ends
The trial covers HBO Max’s ad-supported Basic plan, which normally runs $10.99 a month. Amazon bills you automatically once the seven days are up unless you cancel first.
You could upgrade to the ad-free Standard plan for $18.49 a month. You can also do Premium for $22.99 a month if you want 4K and more simultaneous streams. The free week itself only applies to Basic.
If you decide HBO Max isn’t for you, canceling through Amazon takes just a couple of steps, and you’ll keep access for the rest of the trial even after you cancel.
Offers like this one tend not to stick around. Amazon has pulled this exact HBO Max trial from Prime Channels before without much notice, so it’s worth signing up now rather than waiting.
Is the free trial worth it?
If Lanterns, Hacks, or The Pitt have been sitting on your watchlist, a free week is a low-risk way to catch up.
HBO Max isn’t the only service running a deal right now, either. Several other streaming services currently have free trials of their own, so it’s worth comparing offers before you settle on what to pay for once the free week runs out.
