YouTube TV keeps The Weather Channel and other networks in the Allen Media Group renewal

YouTube TV keeps The Weather Channel as part of a comprehensive, long-term carriage agreement finalized this week. The deal, struck between Google’s live streaming arm and Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group (AMG), ensures that the nation’s most-watched weather network will remain a staple of the platform’s channel lineup without any service interruption.

For most viewers, this news means they won’t face a channel blackout, which has become common with streaming services. If talks had failed, subscribers would have lost real-time emergency alerts and local forecasts from The Weather Channel, which are especially important with the 2026 storm season coming up.

What does the new agreement cover?

The deal covers more than just The Weather Channel. YouTube TV will also keep other Allen Media Group channels like Justice Central, Comedy.TV, and Recipe.TV.

The agreement also keeps Local Now, a free streaming service that gives users local news and weather updates. Many people rely on Local Now for neighborhood-specific information.

We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Google by continuing to provide our weather, news, comedy, court, and lifestyle networks to YouTube TV’s millions of subscribers,” said Byron Allen, Founder and CEO of Allen Media Group.

How this could affect your costs

Although this is good news, many subscribers are watching for possible price increases. In the past, new carriage deals have sometimes led to higher fees that end up being passed on to customers.

Industry experts point out that this renewal happened smoothly, unlike past disputes. For example, the Disney blackout in late 2025 led to a 6.9% spike in YouTube TV cancellations.

By handling this deal quietly and quickly, YouTube TV seems focused on keeping its subscribers. After the Disney dispute, a Drive Research survey showed that one in four subscribers thought about leaving because the service “no longer delivered the core content they signed up for.”

Some reports say the new deal could move certain Allen Media Group channels into YouTube TV’s newer, cheaper genre-based packages, which would help viewers looking to save money.

Right now, the base plan costs $83 per month. But if The Weather Channel is added to special News or Lifestyle bundles, people who do not want all the channels might get a more personalized and possibly cheaper option.
