Betrayal: A Father’s Secret is a Hulu true crime docuseries that delves into Jason Lytton’s case file as told on the Betrayal true crime podcast.
Jason was convicted of sexual violations against children. He was sentenced to 329 days in Salt Lake County Jail and two years of supervised probation.
He was initially charged with 100 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. This was after his wife discovered a secret folder of sexual material on his laptop and phone.
Justin’s involvement in the case
Ashley, Jason’s wife, reported her findings to Justin Lytton, Jason’s brother. It is alleged that Justin tried to convince her not to go to the police with that information despite him being a law enforcement officer.
He joined law enforcement in 2005 with the Utah Department of Corrections. He later became a police officer at the Unified Police Department of Salt Lake City, where he still serves.
Justin’s reluctance forced Ashley to handle the matter alone, so she called the cops on her husband. His decision to defend his brother was questionable, given how close he was to the family and his reputation as an outstanding police officer.
It is reported that he played a big role in assisting Jason and Ashley whenever they had marriage issues. He also helped them to handle Jason’s mental issues, which had plagued him for a while.
Justin’s current whereabouts
Throughout the trial, Justin stood by his brother’s side and distanced himself from Ashley and the rest of the family. He also declined to participate in the docuseries that explores his brother’s crimes.
Unfortunately, to the disappointment of all those who wanted justice to prevail, Jason only served ten months and was released in August 2023.
Since his release, he has been living with his brother Justin Lytton in Herriman, Utah. Justin Lytton continues to serve as a police officer.
