Ruth Buscombe: 5 Interesting Facts About the F1 TV presenter

Ruth Buscombe is an engineer and the current F1TV presenter. The new role allows her to wear her clothes, rather than a team uniform, as all her previous jobs required. 

While she has worked for various teams and spent most of her working life with Formula 1, she has no allegiance to any team and enjoys the sport. 

As a presenter, she brings her wonderful personality, engineering knowledge, and experience working in Formula 1 to her new role. 

Here are five interesting facts about F1 TV presenter Ruth Buscombe. 

1. Her teachers discouraged her interest in engineering.

Like every little girl, Ruth wanted to be a princess at some point in her life. She attended Forest School, Walthamstow.  

The young girl loved mathematics because of its problem-solving aspects. As a high school student, she expressed an interest in Engineering, but her teachers discouraged her. 

They pointed out that the field was male-dominated and would not be the best choice. No wonder today she is a champion for Women in STEM through the FIA Girls on Track. 

2. She Graduated with Honors from Cambridge

Ruth Buscombe stuck to her plan and joined Cambridge University to study Aerospace and Aerothermal Engineering. 

The successful engineer graduated with honours and demonstrated that women can succeed in STEM fields as well.

She did her Master’s thesis on “the effects of drag racing system” and graduated with honours.

3. She has only worked in Formula 1

While most people work for several companies before finding their passion, Ruth joined Formula 1 after graduation. She began her career in 2012 as a Simulation Development Engineer for Scuderia Ferrari.

 In 2016, she joined Haas F1 and became an ambassador for Dare to Be Different in the same year. The gifted engineer aims to encourage more women to pursue careers in STEM fields and succeed. 

After 6 months, she joined Sauber and helped the team finish ahead of their main rival, Manor Racing. Ruth kept her job at Sauber until 2023, then she became a presenter for F1TV.

4. She was in a car accident in 18

During her first week at University, she was hit by a car and nearly died.

She says that the experience made her thankful for life and taught her never to give up.

5. She is married to Nathan Divey

Ruth Buscombe married Mercedes mechanic Nathan Divey, whom she met at work. The two had their wedding in 2024 at Old Marylebone Town Hall.
