Detroit SportsNet is the local TV and streaming home for Detroit Tigers baseball and Red Wings hockey.
It puts both teams under one subscription. But it does not carry every game or work everywhere.
Before paying, here is what to know
1. It carries local Tigers and Red Wings broadcasts
Detroit SportsNet launched with the 2026 Tigers season. The Red Wings move to the network for the 2026–27 NHL season. This will be replacing FanDuel Sports Network Detroit.
If your ZIP code is inside both home territories, one subscription covers both teams throughout the year. However, this applies to locally televised games.
You will not get Detroit Lions or Pistons games. Detroit SportsNet is not a complete Detroit sports package.
2. Detroit SportsNet price
The direct streaming plans cost:
- $19.99 a month
- $189.99 annually
Twelve monthly payments total $239.88. By choosing this plan, you save $49.89, or just over 20%. That lowers the average cost to about $15.83 each month.
Both options renew automatically unless you cancel before the next billing date.
The annual plan is only offered when your billing ZIP is inside both teams’ home TV territories.
3. Direct streaming is only for the local market
Detroit SportsNet streaming is designed for in-market fans. Your billing ZIP determines which plan you can buy, while your physical location may also be checked when you watch.
If you live outside the Tigers’ territory, you need MLB.TV for out-of-market games. Out-of-market Red Wings fans need ESPN+ Power Play or NHL Center Ice.
Enter your ZIP code before paying. Fans who are inside only one team’s territory will be limited to the monthly plan and that team’s available games.
4. National games are not included
Local Tigers and Red Wings broadcasts stream without local blackouts when you are inside the correct territory. Games selected by national partners do not appear on Detroit SportsNet.
Some games may require ESPN, ABC, FOX, TNT, or another national service. Detroit SportsNet also does not guarantee access to every postseason game.
Check each team’s broadcast schedule before deciding whether you need another streaming subscription or live TV package.
5. Your TV provider may already carry the channel
Detroit SportsNet is available through several pay-TV services. Current listings include:
- DIRECTV and DIRECTV Stream
- Fubo
- Xfinity
- Spectrum
- AT&T U-verse
- Several smaller local cable systems
Use the official Tigers channel finder to check your provider, channel number, and required package.
If Detroit SportsNet is included in your TV plan, you can authenticate through the MLB App with participating provider credentials. Buying the standalone stream could mean paying twice for the same local games.
6. Tigers games stream through the MLB App
For Tigers streaming, sign in through the MLB App on the web, phones, tablets, and connected TV devices.
Your subscription includes local Tigers games live or on demand. It also provides MLB Big Inning, live Minor League games, and select local pregame and postgame shows.
Red Wings access may work differently. The current terms say you might need another step or a separate account for the 2026–27 season. Confirm the instructions before the first game if hockey is your main reason for subscribing.
7. It offers the best value if you follow both teams
The annual plan makes the most sense for an in-market cord-cutter who watches both the Tigers and Red Wings. Their schedules provide local sports coverage across most of the year.
Choose monthly if you follow only one team. You should use it too if you want to test the service first. Skip it if you mainly need national games, the Lions, the Pistons, or entertainment channels.
If national sports networks are also important, compare the combined cost with a broader option such as the YouTube TV Sports Plan. You may still need Detroit SportsNet for local Tigers and Red Wings broadcasts.
