How to Return DirecTV Equipment in a Few Simple Steps

If you are a DirecTV subscriber, you know that the company will bring you all the necessary equipment for connecting compatible devices and your home’s TV. That means you do not need to buy any equipment to enjoy the services offered.

Since the company uses a satellite service, it requires you to have three pieces of items. These include a satellite dish, remote, and receiver. Since you are getting them for free, you will have to return DirecTV equipment to AT&T in case you cancel your subscription.

It is easy to return DirecTV equipment regardless of the service you subscribed to or purchased. In other words, you can return the items irrespective of whether you are using the DSL service or DIRECTV, U-verse TV, AT&T Internet, and Fixed Wireless Internet service.

What equipment needs to be returned to DirecTV

You only need to give back the following equipment:

  • Receivers
  • Power cords
  • Remotes

Remember that you do not need to return DirecTV dish or coax cables.

How to return DirecTV DSL service equipment

As a DSL service subscriber, the items you may give back include your Wi-Fi gateway or modem. You can deliver them and get a replacement if they have become inoperable because of defective materials.

The window for returning them is within the first year of the shipment or installation date.

  • Contact DirecTV. You will receive a prepaid UPS shipping label from the company. The shipping label will also come with a return authorization number.
  • If possible, put the items in their original box.
  • Take the return authorization number and write it on the front of the box. Ensure to write the correct number because the company will not accept a parcel that arrives without it.
  • Leave the box at an authorized UPS store near you, which is also the equipment return address.

Note that DirecTV will not accept any item and will not issue any credits after 30 days unless they are defective. It will take up to two weeks to process the returns.

In this case, you do not need to pack the items in their original boxes. Instead, take them and your 9-digit account number to a UPS Store or FedEx Office near you.

Consider contacting the company to determine whether you can return the equipment in person. If you do not know the account number, you will find it on your bill.

Once you take them to the recommended equipment return locations, the companies will pack and ship the items to DirecTV at no charge. You will get a receipt to confirm the return.

How to return defective, in-warranty equipment

DirecTV offers a 90-day equipment warranty from the date of installation. If the items you received become defective within 90 days, contact the company for more information. You will receive further instructions on what to do.

Note that if you return any damaged equipment because of abuse, the company may add a fee for you to cover. But you also have the option of disputing it.

In some cases, it may not be possible to return the DirecTV access card. Ideally, the company should send you a return envelope within 30 days from the date you closed your account. If you do not receive the envelope, recycle or dispose of it the same way you would a credit card.
