How to Stop DISH from Defaulting to Streaming on New TV

Is your new DISH defaulting to a streaming service every time you turn it on? Find out how to fix this issue.

If your DISH is defaulting to a streaming service, it could be that the settings in your receiver are set to automatically launch a streaming app on startup.

It could also be possible that your new Smart TV has an autorun feature enabled, which automatically launches streaming.

The good news is that stopping your DISH or TV from defaulting to a streaming service after powering up is very easy. Below is a look at how to do it.

1. Adjust your DISH receiver settings

You must adjust your device’s settings to stop your DISH receiver from defaulting to a streaming service. To do this:

  • Press the Menu or Home button on your receiver’s remote control to access the settings menu.
  • Select the Power option.
  • Change the Power On settings to Home Screen, Smart Channel, or Last Channel.

Note: With the Power On set to Home Screen, your Dish receiver will automatically launch the home screen on startup. If set to Smart Channel, it will tune in to your most watched channel or the last watched channel if set to Last Channel.

2. Turn off the autorun feature

Your smart TV could also automatically launch a streaming service instead of the input channel that contains your DISH receiver. To fix this, you must turn off the autorun feature.

  • Press the Menu or Home button to access your TV’s settings menu.
  • Look for Start Screen Options/Startup Screen/Start with Last App/Autorun
  • Turn off the autorun feature to stop your TV from defaulting to a streaming service or other output source.

NOTE: The location of the autorun feature will vary depending on your TV. For example, on Samsung Smart TV, you can access it through Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Start Screen Options.

Also, some TV models have more than one autorun configuration. For example, Samsung TV offers Start with Smart Hub Home and Autorun last App among others. You must turn off all your autorun configurations for this solution to work.

Once you turn off autorun, your TV will automatically resume the last input source when it powers on. Therefore, if you have only connected the DISH receiver, your TV will automatically launch it once it powers on.
