CME joins anti-piracy coalition ACE — What it means for illegal streaming in Europe

CME (Central European Media Enterprises) has joined the world’s largest and leading anti-piracy coalition, ACE (Alliance for Creativity Entertainment). The move marks a major global expansion for ACE.

By joining ACE, CME will also help boost the coalition’s anti-piracy operations, especially in central and eastern Europe. Currently, ACE is engaged in an ongoing war against illegal streaming, with multiple anti-piracy crackdown operations around the world. 

CME adds to a growing network of member organizations for ACE

Central European Media Enterprises is one of the leading media entertainment companies in Central and Eastern Europe. It operates several paid and free-to-air TV channels across Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Moldova, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Slovakia.

It becomes the latest media organization to join a growing network within ACE, which, so far, has over 50 members. 

Other notable organizations within the coalition include Motion Picture Association, Netflix, Universal Studios, Paramount Global, Warner Bros. Discovery, The Walt Disney Studios, Amazon, and Apple TV+. 

ACE has welcomed the move by CME to join the global coalition, with Larissa Knapp (Motion Picture Association’s Chief Protection Officer and one of the key figures at ACE) terming the decision as one that will help bolster the organization’s anti-piracy efforts. 

With every new member, ACE grows stronger, broadens its collective expertise, and reinforces its ability to protect content from criminal piracy networks and support lawful distribution of creative content.”

Expected increased anti-piracy crackdowns in Europe 

CME’s decision to join ACE is expected to cause an increase in anti-piracy operations in the European region. 

With CME being one of the major TV network operators, ACE will benefit from the organization’s local insights and intelligence on piracy operations in the Eastern and Central Europe regions.

Likewise, CME will now be able to leverage ACE’s massive anti-piracy weaponry. This includes advanced piracy monitoring, technological innovation, and coordinated anti-piracy enforcement. 

Klára Brachtlová, Deputy CEO & Chief External Affairs for CME, has welcomed the move as one that will strengthen the organization’s anti-piracy efforts.

Joining ACE reflects CME’s commitment to protecting creativity and ensuring a fair, predictable and sustainable media environment. By working with ACE and its members, we aim to strengthen collective efforts to safeguard Europe’s creative industries and uphold the integrity of the audiovisual market.

CME’s inclusion in the anti-piracy coalition will also expand its (Alliance for Creativity Entertainment) in Europe. There are already other European member organizations in the coalition, such as UEFA, which became the first sports body to join ACE in 2025.
