Mountain West App moves behind a paywall in July: What changes for fans

The Mountain West App is changing in a big way. Starting this July 2026, the app will move from a free model to a paid subscription service.

But not every Mountain West game is moving behind a paywall.

Below is what you need to know about this move.

What is changing in July for Mountain West App?

The biggest change is simple: the MW App will become the exclusive streaming home for Mountarighin West sports content that is not shown on national linear TV. This new version of the app will cover content across all 21 conference-sponsored sports that do not land on CBS, FOX, or The CW.

The app will not be a small add-on service. You’ll watch more than 1,000 live regular-season and postseason events each year from here.

It will launch with two pricing tiers and both monthly and annual plans, though final prices are not yet final.

What will still be on your TV?

A lot of the biggest Mountain West games will still stay on regular TV or major national sports channels. Under the new deal:

  • CBS Sports Network will carry 15 regular-season football games each year. There will be at least one football game on CBS and Paramount+.
  • FOX, FS1, and FS2 will carry 12 regular-season football games each year. FOX keeps the Mountain West Football Championship Game.
  • The CW will show 13 regular-season football games each year.
  • The TV partners together will deliver more than 150 live events each year.

The app is not taking over everything. If you mostly watch the biggest football games or the top TV matchups, you will still find many of them on national TV.

What moves into the paid app

The paid MW App is where you will need to go for the conference content that is not picked up by the national TV partners. That includes a lot of games and school-focused coverage that may matter most to loyal fans.

Here is the kind of content the paid app is set to include:

  • live events from Mountain West sports not shown on national linear TV
  • on-demand full-game replays
  • media day coverage
  • video podcasts and original shows
  • highlights, features, and school-focused content

If you only care about the biggest TV football games, the shift may not feel huge. But if you follow a certain school closely, watch Olympic sports, or want more full-conference coverage, the app may become much more important than it used to be.

Where you will be able to watch

At launch, the conference says the paid MW App will be available on a wide range of platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Google Play, and Android TV. A Prime Video app is planned for the fall, after the July launch window.

You will not be stuck with only one device or one website.
