How to get ITVX on your TV

ITVX is ITV’s free streaming service (replacing ITV Hub), offering live TV channels and on-demand shows, box sets, and films. It’s described as “the UK’s freshest streaming service”.

So, how do you get ITVX on your TV? Well, you need a compatible streaming device or Smart TV.  Getting set up is fairly simple: just install the free ITVX app on your streaming device or Smart TV, create a free ITVX account, and log in on your TV screen.

Read on for more details on specific compatible devices and the full ITVX app set-up process.

Step-by-step guide on how to get ITVX on your TV

Follow this procedure to get the app on your device:

Step 1 – Check if your TV is supported

Not all TVs and boxes support ITVX. First, identify your device and check support. ITVX is available on most modern platforms.

Below are the supported devices:

  • Samsung Smart TVs: 2016 models and later (2017+ have full features).
  • LG Smart TVs (webOS): 2016 models and later (with webOS 4.0+).
  • Android TVs: All TVs or set-top boxes running Android 7.0+.
  • Fire TV devices: Amazon Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Edition TVs.
  • Roku devices: Roku sticks and Roku-OS TVs.
  • Apple TV: Apple TV 4th gen or later (tvOS 14 or above).
  • Google Chromecast or Google TV: Chromecast with Google TV and Android TV boxes like Nvidia Shield.
  • Gaming consoles: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Series S, Series X.
  • Cable and satellite boxes: Sky Q, Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Virgin Media TiVo/Stream/360, Freesat recorders, Freeview Play boxes, YouView boxes (BT TV, TalkTalk TV, Humax, or Sony).

Step 2 – Set up your television

Before we begin the installation process, ensure you have the following things set up for a smooth installation:

  • Connect to the TV: If you’re on a streaming box or stick, plug it into an HDMI port. Switch your TV’s input to that HDMI slot. Using an HDMI cable is recommended for the best video and audio quality. If you have a smart or Android TV, skip this step.
  • Power on and navigate: Turn on the TV and streaming device.
  • Internet connection: Ensure your TV or device is connected to the internet. For best results, we recommend you use a high-speed connection (at least 10 Mbps). If possible, use a wired Ethernet connection as it is more stable than Wi‑Fi. If not feasible, ensure your signal is strong by moving the router closer to the gadget.
  • Avoid issues: Check that your TV’s firmware or box software is up to date to avoid compatibility issues.

ITVX app on app store
  • On Android devices or boxes, open the Google Play Store and find the app.
  • On Apple devices (Apple TV), open the App Store, search for and install the application.
  • On Amazon Fire TVs, open the Amazon Appstore (or use voice search) to look for it.
  • On Roku, go to Home > Streaming Channels > Search channels, and find “ITVX”.
  • On Samsung TV, open Smart Hub, use the Search function or go to the Samsung App Store to locate it.
  • On LG TV, open the LG Content Store and search for the streaming service.
  • On game consoles, go to the console’s app store: PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, and search “ITVX”.
  • On Sky/YouView boxes, ITVX should appear in the ITV apps section or app store.

Once downloaded, open the app from your device’s apps menu.

After opening the app on your TV, you will be prompted to sign in to your account.

To sign in on your TV, you have three options:

1. QR code

  • Use your TV remote to select the “Sign in with QR Code” option.
  • A QR code will display on the screen. Open the camera app on your phone and scan this code.
  • Sign in to your ITVX account on your phone when prompted.
  • Your TV will automatically update and log you into your account once signed in on your phone.

2. Email and password sign-in

  • Choose “Sign in with email” on your TV.
  • Use your remote control to manually enter your registered email address and account password.
  • Select “Sign In” once both details are entered to log into your account.

3. One-Time TV Login Code

  • Pick “Sign in with TV code” on your television.
  • A 6-digit pairing code appears on screen.
  • On your phone, tablet, or computer, go to www.itv.com/pair.
  • Enter the 6-digit code from your TV when prompted.
  • Your ITVX account on both devices will link, and your TV will sign in automatically.

Once signed in successfully using either method, you can begin watching content on your television.

Step 5 – Troubleshooting common issues

Below are some issues you might face and how you can fix them:

  • App not showing or device unsupported: If you don’t see ITVX in your app store, check if your device is supported. Older devices (e.g., Humax Freeview/Freesat boxes, very old Samsung TVs) may not support ITVX. Ensure your device meets the requirements listed in Step 1.
  • Buffering or slow streaming: Check your internet speed via test sites like fast.com or speedtest.com (≥10 Mbps recommended). Restart your router and TV/device. If on Wi‑Fi, move the router closer or use Ethernet.
  • App crashes or won’t load: Update the ITVX app to the latest version from the App Store. Also, update your device’s firmware. If problems continue, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. A simple restart of your gadget can also fix temporary glitches.
  • Sign-in or playback errors: Ensure you entered your email and password correctly. Check that your ITVX account is active. If you recently changed your password, update it in the app.
