Netflix’s new “Clips” feature brings TikTok-style browsing to streaming

Netflix has introduced new updates to its mobile design, which will offer you a fresh and improved user experience when streaming on phones. One of the updates Netflix has introduced is Clips, a vertical video feed that offers a TikTok-style browsing.

According to Netflix, Clips will make it easier, faster, and more fun to discover content on the platform’s mobile app. The feature is designed to solve one of the most common complaints you might have about streaming – spending too much time deciding what to watch

What does Netflix’s Clips do?

Clips is a vertical video feed that will now be available on the Netflix mobile app. The feed will offer you short snippets of series, movies, and specials that are personalized to your tastes.

In a press release announcing the launch of the new mobile features, Netflix described Clips as “a personalized highlight reel that helps you decide what to watch or play next, without endless scrolling.”

But Clips is more than just an entertainment video feature; Netflix has also introduced actionable features that you can use once you discover content.

For example, you can add movies, shows, and specials to “My List” directly from the feed. You can also share clips with family or friends via text or social media, once you discover something that they would enjoy watching.

Netflix’s Clips video feed also offers an “Explore” feature, which you can use to quickly browse through a collection of personalized content.

Other updates to the mobile design

Clips is not the only update Netflix has introduced to its mobile app. It has also overhauled the design of the mobile app’s interface in a way that will help reduce clutter.

Netflix has also streamlined its navigation features and improved the visuals. The result of these design updates will be a more user-centric experience that will make streaming on the Netflix app feel more natural on smartphones.

While announcing the changes, Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, lauded the company’s commitment to improving the mobile experience for users.

Mobile is an important part of how Netflix members stay connected to the entertainment they love. With our enhanced navigation and Clips, our new vertical video feed, we’re building on past learnings to deliver an experience designed for the way members want to enjoy Netflix on their phones,” stated the executive.

Netflix is planning the future expansion of the Clips feature

Clips and other mobile design updates have already gone live in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa. Netflix will roll out the new features in the rest of the world in the coming months. The streaming platform has also announced potential updates to the Clips feature in the future. This will include expanding the live feed to include live programming and podcasts, and offering Netflix collections based on genres or personalized users’ interests.
