If you own a Philips Smart TV –whether it is your first smart TV or you are coming from another brand –you might be finding it difficult to locate, add or update some apps.
While the TV itself comes with a number of preinstalled apps, there are just some essential apps that are not included.
One way of getting new apps on a Philips Smart TV is to update the software. Almost every update comes with additional apps that you can opt to install. However, this isn’t the only method.
Here are three ways that you can use to download and app apps to your Philips Smart TV.
Install from Philips Smart TV App Store or Net TV
To add apps from the Philips Smart TV App Store or Net TV, follow the steps below:
- Press Home
- Select Apps and then click Philips Store
- Search the app you want to add
- Press Install
- Select OK
Adding apps to Philips Smart TV from the default Store is free. Unlike four years ago, the Store now has a wide variety of options.
However, if you cannot get a particular app, it is advisable to check it on the Google Play Store, for Android-based TVs.
Download apps from the Google Play Store
Apart from the Philips App Store, you can download and install additional apps from the Google Play Store. This is only possible if you are using an Android-powered Philips Smart TV.
To download and install an app from Google Play Store:
- Press Home
- Select Apps
- Click Google Play
- Select the app you want to add
- Click Install
If you do not have a Google Account, create one before starting this process. It is also important to note that not all apps on the Google Play Store are free.
If an app is not free, add a credit card to your Google account.
Adding apps to Philips Smart TV from external sources
While the two app stores have hundreds of apps, some apps are not available on the two platforms. You can install apps on Philips Smart TV from external sources.
First, you must install ES File Explorer on your device.
To install the ES File Explorer:
- Go to Google Play Store
- Search ES File Manager
- Install the app
After installing the ES File Manager on your smartphone, ensure that your Philips Smart TV is connected to the same WIFI connection as your phone.
After confirming the two gadgets share a network, install ES File Manager on your Smart TV.
To install the app on your Philips Smart TV:
- On your smartphone, open ES File Explorer
- Click the side menu (on the top left corner)
- Scroll down to ‘Network’
- Under Network, click “Smart TV.”
- Select “Philips Smart TV” from the list — to install the app on your Smart TV.
After installing the ES File Explorer app on your Philips Smart TV, you can install any app that is not available on Google Play Store or Philips Store.
You can install apps either from removable devices or through your smartphone.
Hopefully, you have now learned how to add apps to your Philips TV.
If you are still having difficulties, make sure to confirm the type of TV you have and the app store available (Google Play Store or Net TV). Let us know your experience below.
