Why didn’t the Braxtons attend Traci’s funeral?

Traci Braxton’s sisters did not attend her funeral because she had said she did not want one.

Traci had stated that she wanted to be cremated immediately and was not interested in a memorial service or funeral after she passed.

However, her husband had a memorial service, which did not please her family, and they felt he had ignored her wishes.

Traci’s life

Traci Braxton was born in 1971 in Maryland, USA. She started her entertainment career as a member of an all-girl group with her sisters, and they released one single.

Traci left the group to become a counsellor and rejoined them in 2011 for the reality show Braxton Family Values. She also participated in Marriage Bootcamp with her husband, Kelvin Surrat.

During her life, Traci Braxton starred in plays and films, including There Is a Stranger in My House, Sinners Wanted, and All In.  She maintained her role in her family’s reality show, which is still on air on WETV.

Marriage

Traci Braxton was married to Kevin Surat, and they had a son named Kevin Surrat Jr. Unfortunately, her husband and son are estranged because Kevin Surat Sr. did not agree with his wife’s choice to leave her estate to her son.

Traci Braxton Cause of Death

Traci Braxton was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and was sick for a year. She died in March 2022 after one year.

Before her death, she made it clear that she did not want a memorial service or a funeral. Traci wished to be cremated after her death without a funeral or memorial service.

Her husband chose to have a memorial service where attendees viewed Traci. Traci had insisted she did not want that before her death.

There are allegations that he charged an entry fee to the memorial service, and people paid to attend. That further offended the family.

Why didn’t the Braxtons attend Traci’s funeral?

The Braxtons did not attend the funeral because they did not believe it was what Traci wanted. They felt that her husband had disregarded her wishes, and they could not participate.

It also offended the family that Traci Braxton’s father struggled to enter the funeral. He was initially told that he was not on the guest list.

One would find it hard to believe that a parent would not be welcome at their own child’s funeral.

Conclusion

While many agree with the Braxtons’ choice, one sees where her husband came from. Kevin Surrat wanted to honour his wife publicly, even if that was not how she wanted to be remembered.
