Since then, fans of the show have lost touch with some of their favorite stars on the wilderness survival series. Below, we have compiled a detailed update on what the cast of Port Protection: Alaska has been up to since the show’s cancellation.
1. Sam and Matt Carlson
Father and son duo Sam and Matt Carlson were among the prominent cast members of Port Protection: Alaska. Since the show ended, the two of them have been regular features on the Port Protection YouTube channel, Alaska-Vibes, where they continue to lead an off-grid living lifestyle.
Sam Carlson still lives in Port Protection, where he has spent much of his life and eventually raised a family.
Matt Carlson grew up in Port Protection, but one of the Alaska-Vibes videos shows him living in Ketchikan, the regional transit and supply hub for Port Protection.
However, as of June 2026, Matt was back living in Port Protection, where an Alaska-Vibes video showed him building a fort with his daughter, Shipley.
2. Timothy “Curly” Leach
Curly Leach was another famous star of Port Protection: Alaska. An expert timber feller and firewood provider, he was one of the hardest-working members of the Port Protection community, known for his helpful attitude towards others.
Since the conclusion of Port Protection: Alaska, Curly Leach has continued living off-grid in Port Protection.
However, his mobility has been affected by hip issues, and he now walks around using a cane for support. Additionally, he has lost over 100 pounds following doctors’ advice in preparation for hip replacement surgery.
3. Oliver Johnson and Breanna Miethe
Oliver Johnson and Breanna Miethe were the younger cast members of Port Protection: Alaska. The couple, childhood sweethearts, originally lived in the nearby town of Wrangell, Alaska before permanently relocating to Port Protection.
After the show concluded, the couple remained in Port Protection, where they continue to live off the grid. However, their work, particularly commercial fishing, often takes them away from the Alaskan community.
Breanna has also ventured into photography work and has been selling custom canvas prints of the Alaskan landscape and lifestyle.
4. Carl Hernandez and Morgan Turcott
Carl Hernandez and Morgan Turcott were another fan-favorite young couple on Port Protection: Alaska. They became popular for their extreme work ethic during technical projects, such as building a rugged home in the community’s Back Bay.
Carl Hernandez and Morgan Turcott are still living in Port Protection and have regularly appeared in the Alaska-Vibes YouTube videos. They have also kept up with their technical projects, including a 2026 greenhouse build to grow fresh produce.
Additionally, they have grown their family and are now raising two young children in the Alaskan community.
5. Michael “Jiggy” Nichols and Gail Sterling
Michael “Jiggy” Nichols and Gail Sterling were central cast members of Port Protection: Alaska. They became famous on the show for their expertise in commercial and subsistence fishing, while Gail also won the hearts of the show’s fans for her fearless nature.
Michael “Jiggy” Nichols and Gail Sterling have continued living in Port Protection since the show concluded. They also regularly appear on YouTube channels, such as Alaska-Vibes and the Culinary Edge TV.
The couple is still engaged in commercial fishing during the Alaskan salmon seasons. However, during the freezing off-season, the couple travels to Hawaii, where they lead a community-driven subsistence lifestyle, growing produce and picking fruit from local trees.
6. Litzi Botello
Litzi Botello was one of the most beloved cast members of Port Protection: Alaska. She was famous for her artistic talent and for surviving the harsh conditions of the Alaskan wilderness with only one arm.
Fans of the show watched in amazement as Lizzie handled several tasks, from fishing, operating a watercraft, processing wild game, and other rugged chores. She was also a talented sculptor who used polymer clay to create vibrant artworks.
Tragically, Litzi Botello passed away on June 25, 2021, following a terminal battle with ovarian cancer. Her death happened when the show was still airing.
7. Veronica Arrants
Veronica Arrants was one of the later additions to the cast of Port Protection: Alaska. Originally an emergency services dispatcher from Washington, she moved to Port Protection to be closer to her aunt, Litzi Botello, during her battle with cancer.
Following her aunt’s death, Veronica took responsibility for maintaining her homestead in the Back Bay area of Port Protection. She continues to live in the Alaskan community, where she still leads an off-grid lifestyle.
She has also taken up commercial fishing work during the summer to support her off-grid lifestyle in Alaska.
8. David Squibb
David Squibb was one of the original cast members of Port Protection: Alaska. A minimalist, he specialized in salvaging materials, scrap metal, and discarded parts for use on tools and boats.
He regularly appeared on the show with his partner, Kristina “Kris” Jackson. Since the conclusion of Port Protection: Alaska, Squib and Kris have continued to lead an off-grid lifestyle, and currently live in Point Baker, a neighborhood near Port Protection.
However, they have encountered some personal challenges, with Kris’s daughter undergoing surgery and chemotherapy to remove a brain mass. Additionally, in July 2026, David Squibb suffered a heart attack, but he recovered successfully before returning home to Point Baker to recuperate.
9. Mary Miller
Mary Miller was another original cast member on Port Protection: Alaska. Fondly known as “The City Girl” on the show, she was originally from Oakland, California before relocating to Port Protection to lead an off-grid lifestyle.
However, the off-grid lifestyle eventually took a physical toll on her, and she left Port Protection for Craig in the hopes of leading a more manageable move. Her last appearance on the show was the season 7 finale, where her close friend, Curly Leach, helped her pack for the move.
As of 2026, Mary Miller is still living in Craig. However, since leaving the show, she has kept relatively low profile away from the media spotlight.
10. Gary Muehlberger
Gary Muehlberger was a legendary figure on Port Protection: Alaska, considered by many the “heart and soul” of the Alaskan community. An expert survivalist, he was famous for his decades of subsistence knowledge, trapping skills, and his century-old fishing boat.
Sadly, Gary Muehlberger passed away on March 17, 2021, following an accidental fire that destroyed his home in Port Protection. His loyal dog, Trapper, survived the fire and was adopted by the Alaskan community before passing away months later.
