Northern Exposure was a comedy-drama series that premiered on CBS as a midseason replacement. However, it quickly became a fan-favorite show that lasted six seasons and won 27 awards, including three Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes.

More than three decades later, many fans still have fond memories of the show and the quirky characters portrayed by the cast. Below is a detailed update on what the Northern Exposure main cast members have been up to since the show concluded.
1. Rob Morrow

Rob Morrow was one of the main cast members of Northern Exposure. He portrayed Dr. Joel Fleischman, a young doctor from New York City assigned to be a general practitioner in the small town of Cicely, Alaska.
After Northern Exposure, Morrow appeared in several films and TV shows, including Street Time, Numb3rs, The Good Doctor (2011), and Night of the Wild (2015). He recently appeared in the 2026 historical drama, The Gray House.
In 2025, Morrow launched Northern Disclosure, a Northern Exposure rewatch podcast in which he revisits past episodes and interviews former cast and crew members.
2. Barry Corbin

Barry Corbin portrayed Maurice Minniefield, the macho, unofficial mayor of Cicely in Northern Exposure. His character was responsible for bringing Dr. Joel Fleischman to the remote Alaskan town.
After the show concluded, Corbin went on to have a successful acting career. Some of his notable acting credits include Big Easy, One Tree Hill, The Closer, Anger Management, The Ranch, Time Quest, and No Country for Old Men.
Corbin is still acting, having recently appeared in shows like Yellowstone and Tulsa King. He also remains active in Northern Exposure fan events three decades later.
3. Janine Turner

Janine Turner was another main cast member of Northern Exposure. She portrayed Maggie O’Connell, a bush pilot, property agent, and Dr. Fleischman’s landlord who had a love-hate relationship with him.

Some of Corbett’s most notable acting credits include Sex and the City, United States of Tara, Parenthood, the My Big Fat Greek Wedding film franchise, Raising Helen (2010), and the To All the Boys film trilogy.

Geary is still acting, and currently stars as nurse Charley Copeland in the Going Home drama show that streams on the Great American Pure Flix. She has also kept up with Northern Exposure fan engagements over the years, including appearances on cast reunion events.
6. Darren E. Burrows

Darren Burrows played Ed Chigliak on Northern Exposure, where his character captured viewers’ attention with his gentle nature and encyclopedic knowledge of film.
After the show concluded, Burrows went on to appear in several films, including Cry Baby (1990), Amistad (1997), Sunset Strip (2000), and Forty Shades of Blue (2005). He also had minor roles in shows like The X-Files and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Over time, Burrows pivoted away from full-time acting into traditional and independent filmmaking. He also ventured into artisanal crafts, where he now creates firearm engravings and designs handmade jewelry.
Dan Burrows has also written a book, Northern Exposed, which is based on his experiences on the show. In 2016, he tried to revive Northern Exposure through a crowdfunding project, but he did not meet the funding goal and the project ultimately stalled.
7. Elaine Miles

Elaine Miles played Marilyn Whirlwind, Dr. Fleischman’s native Alaskan receptionist, with Northern Exposure being her debut acting role.
After the show concluded, Miles went on to feature in other films and TV shows, including Scattering Dad (1988), The Business of Fancydancing (2002), The Rez, Tortilla Heaven (2007), and Wyvern (2009).
Elaine Miles is still acting, having recently appeared in an episode of the post-apocalyptic drama, The Last of Us, in 2023. She is also a community advocate who raises awareness for Native American rights, tribal sovereignty, and recognition of tribal IDs.
8. John Cullum

John Cullum played Holling Vincoeur, the owner of The Brick, Cicely’s popular bar and restaurant. By the time he appeared on Northern Exposure, he was already an established actor with several credits in theatre, film, and TV.
After Northern Exposure, Cullum went on to appear in several films and TV shows, including ER, the Law & Order franchise, To Have and To Hold, All Good Things, and Adult World.
He also returned to his theatre roots, participating in several stage plays, including Urinetown: The Musical (2002) and 110 in the Shade (2007), for which he received Tony Award nominations.
Now 96 years old, Cullum is mostly retired from acting. He leads a quiet life in New York, following the death of his wife, Emily Frankel, in 2024.
