Biggest TV shows ending in August 2024

Summer is not the only season coming to an end this August as fans of several shows gear up to bid goodbye to their favorite characters.

The month will see some notable shows releasing their final episodes to wrap up their existence on our screens.

These shows have reached the natural end of their production, while some have been canceled by their existing production houses, and their fate remains unknown.

Here are some honorable mentions of shows ending in August 2024 and their intended release dates.

1. The Umbrella Academy (Netflix)

This is a Netflix series adapted from the Umbrella Academy comic books written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. It was created for Netflix by Steve Blackman and first premiered in 2019.

Umbrella Academy follows the lives of a dysfunctional adopted siblings superhero family. Netflix reported that the first season garnered around 45 million views during its first month of release. Seasons 2 and 3 also did well.

The show was nominated for 6 Emmys and received positive criticism from film enthusiasts. Netflix will release the fourth and final season on Thursday, August 8th, with 6 episodes released simultaneously.

Blackman decided to end the series in season 4 as he had planned for it to run for that duration.

2. SEAL Team (Paramount+)

Seal Team is unique in that it shifted networks from CBS to Paramount+ midway.

The series first debuted in 2017 and follows the lives of a team of elite Navy SEALs sent around the globe to execute secret missions. This team navigates emotional baggage, danger, and loss as they work towards completing their missions.

It aired on CBS from season 1 through episode 4 of season 5 and then moved to Paramount+ for the rest of seasons 5 and 6.

The final season 7 is set to air on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, with the first two episodes streaming before returning to a weekly schedule.

So far, we are assured that David Boreanaz, the producer and star, is set to return, and new cast members will also be introduced in the season.

3. Evil (Paramount+)

Paramount+ canceled the show in season 4, but the writers were allowed to write four more episodes to avoid ending on a cliffhanger.

Robert and Michelle King, the show’s creators, still feel there is more to be written about investigating supernatural incidents.

Evil first debuted on CBS in 2019 for season 1 and later moved to Paramount+ for seasons 2 to 4. The season finale will air on August 8th, 2024, and many fans are still unable to come to terms with the sudden end of their favorite series.

4. Andor (Disney+)

Andor is part of the Star Wars franchise created by Tony Gilroy for Disney+. The show was initially to run for five seasons, but it was agreed that it would run for two.

This is because, after the production of season one, the creator realized it would be biting more than they could chew.

The project was too vast, and Luna, the lead actor, would have to play a younger man over the next 15 years, which would be difficult. Andor originally takes place five years before Rogue One, a film released in 2016.

The series finale was set to be released in August but the dates were pushed back after the writers strike in 2023—production for the series ended in February 2024.
