Love is beautiful and can be experienced in some of the most unexpected ways. The cast of Love After Lockup is a testament to how true the statement is.
The show highlighted couples who had fallen for one another while one of them was serving time behind bars. However, not all the reality stars have lived happily ever after. Several stars from Love After Lockup have sadly passed away over the years.
Here’s an overview of those individuals and their circumstances:
1. Tracie Wagaman
Tracie Wagaman unfortunately passed away in 2021, just one week after giving birth to her second child. The reality TV star was best known for her appearance in Love After Lockup and Life After Lockup.
While on the show, her sobriety journey was explored, and she was on the path to recovery. However, her struggles with drug addiction continued to plague her to the point that viewers can recall that she stole her fiancé Clint Brady’s rental car and disappeared within a couple of days of her release.
She was 41 years old and leaves behind two daughters. The Las Vegas Coroner’s Office determined Tracie’s official cause of death was methamphetamine toxicity.
2. Alla Subbotina
Alla, who was featured on the show alongside her partner, James Cristia, died in August 2021 due to complications related to her battle with addiction.
James stood by her throughout her stint in prison, and even when she relapsed shortly after her release, he supported her when she went to rehab.
She stayed sober after her stay at rehab but started doing drugs again after some time. By relapsing, she violated her parole and landed back in prison. Unfortunately, we don’t know if they were still together at the time of her passing.
Her mother, Yelena, revealed the tragic news of her death on Facebook and strongly implied that Alla’s passing was drug-related. The funeral was attended by close family, friends, and members of the public.
She was 31 years old at the time of her passing.
3. Scott Davey
Scott is the only cast member from Love After Lockup who was not an inmate. He was dating Lizzie Kommes, whom he met through a prison pen pal website called meetaninmate.com. She had been serving time for DUI charges.
Davey was vocal about his struggle with addiction. He also talked openly about his time in federal prison for breaking into ATMs in a 2019 interview with the Fancounters podcast.
He passed away on November 12, 2021. His cause of death has not been disclosed publicly, but his passing was mourned by fans and those who followed his story.
4. Asonta Gholston
At his passing, Asonta was set to return to Love After Lockup season 8. He had been featured in season 3 of the show with his girlfriend, rapper Raneka Hayes.
He died on September 1, 2023, after being involved in a car crash in his hometown of Toccoa, Georgia. It is reported that he had been speeding when he crossed over the double lines on a curve and crashed into a pickup truck with four people inside.
Fortunately, the four survived, but Gholston was pronounced dead at the scene. He was only 33 years old and left behind his new girlfriend Alexis while she was just 5 months pregnant.
