Why Jade Castrinos left Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros was an American folk-rock band founded in 2005. The group was started by Alexander Michael Tahquitz Ebert (Alex Ebert), who wrote and recorded the songs before he met Jade Castrinos.

Together with Castrinos, Alex grew the band to almost ten members and began touring. Many fans were shocked when Jade announced that she had been fired from the band right before they were to go on their North American Tour.

In 2014, Jade took to her Instagram in a now-deleted post to announce that she had been voted off a tour and received the news via email.

The post saved by various media outlets read in part, “for seven years i [sic] sang and wrote music with edward sharpe. they voted me off of tour a week before they left, via email. Lol.”

Alex Ebert replied to the post on his Facebook account but deleted the post not too long after. Ebert’s response read, “Jade has spoken out about not being on this tour. Her statement left a lot of things to the imagination. Out of respect for Jade, I will keep it that way.”

The group refrained from speaking on the issue further and went on tour as planned.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros response

A year after Jade Castrinos quit, the band went on social media and cleared the air about her leaving. They announced that she had quit and was not fired as previously claimed.

Castrinos had been offered a chance to take a break from the tour but chose to walk out instead.

In a follow-up post on Facebook, the band said she was doing well.

Life after leaving Edward Sharpe

Jade went on to become a solo artist and continues to pursue her music career. Since going solo, she has collaborated with Jakob Dylan on various musical projects. The two performed their songs, Go Where You Wanna Go and Dedicated to the One I Love, on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2019.

The band produced an album in 2016 titled PersonaA that took on a different vibe, especially after Jade officially left the group.
