Here’s what “U-verse is not available at this time” means

Are you receiving a “U-verse is not available at this time” message? This means your AT&T U-verse service is unavailable, and you cannot access the signal at the moment.

The error can occur for several reasons, including minor glitches, connectivity issues, an AT&T outage, equipment malfunctions, technical issues on the AT&T side, and more.

The good news is that you can easily troubleshoot and fix this error. Below are various solutions you can try if you receive the “U-verse is not available at this time” error.

Basic troubleshooting tips

If you are receiving a “U-verse is not available at this time” error message, you can try the following simple troubleshooting tips to fix the issue:

  • Check that you have a working internet connection that is fast and stable.
  • Ensure that the coaxial, HDMI, or any other cables connected to your U-verse receiver, TV, and Wi-Fi gateway/router/wireless access point are not loose or damaged
  • Ensure your U-verse receiver is close to your router or wireless access point (WAP). You should also check that nearby objects are not blocking your router’s signal.
  • Move your U-verse receiver away from electrical devices like cordless phones, microwaves, baby monitors, and other appliances, which could be causing signal interference.
  • Ensure that the power cords connected to your equipment are not damaged
  • Ensure that your U-verse equipment is not being affected by a power surge. Common signs of a power surge include flickering or dimming lights, scorches around outlets and plugs, buzzing sounds from outlets, and sudden device shutdowns.

If the above troubleshooting tips work, try the following advanced solutions to fix the error:

1. Check if there are service outages

Service outages are one of the top reasons you might see the “U-verse is not available at this time” message. Therefore, before trying more fixes, you should check for any reported outages in your area.

You can check for AT&T U-verse service outages in several ways. First, you can use the Downdetector web tool, which provides recent reports of outages.

You can also check for service outages using the AT&T service outage info tool. The tool is handy as it allows you to search for a specific area (you can also use your current location) for outages.

Lastly, you can call AT&T customer support and ask directly from one of their agents whether there is an outage in your area.

Unfortunately, you cannot do much if you find a service outage in your area. The only solution is to wait out the issue, allowing the AT&T team to fix it on their end—which can take a few minutes to several hours.

If no outage has been reported in your area, the problem with your AT&T U-verse service is elsewhere. Therefore, you should proceed with the solutions below.

2. Restart your Wi-Fi router

Minor software glitches or bugs with your router are another reason you might receive a “U-verse is not available at this time” message. Fortunately, restarting your router or wireless access point can fix most of these issues.

To do this:

  • Go to a web browser and log into your router/WAP’s web interface. (Note: You need your router/WAP’s IP address, username, and password. You can find this information on the router/WAP in its manual or by searching for it online.)
  • Go through the menu settings to find a “Restart” or “Reboot” option to initiate the restart process.

If you cannot restart your router/WAP from the web interface, you can also soft reset it by power cycling it. To do this:

  • Unplug your router/WAP from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait 30 seconds to two minutes, then plug it back into the outlet.
  • Turn on your router/WAP and allow it to fully boot up.

3. Reboot your AT&T U-verse receiver

Bugs and other glitches can also affect your AT&T U-verse receiver, causing it to malfunction. Like with your router/WAP, rebooting the device can fix most of these issues, thus clearing the error message.

To reboot your AT&T U-verse receiver:

  • Press and hold the power button on your receiver for around 5 seconds until all the lights go off.
  • Release the power button, then press it once to initiate the restart process.
  • Allow your receiver to fully boot up (this can take up to 8 minutes), and then check if the error has been resolved.

4. Run a diagnostic on your receiver

If you still have issues with AT&T U-verse, you can run a diagnostic test on your receiver to identify and fix the problem.

To run the diagnostic test:

  • Go to your AT&T U-verse remote control and press the Menu button.
  • Navigate to the Help option on the Menu settings then select Information > Troubleshoot & Resolve
  • Use the Troubleshooting & Resolve tool to run various diagnostic tests, such as those for your AT&T U-verse DVR (receiver) or internet service.
  • Once an issue is detected, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve it.

In addition to the AT&T Resolve & Troubleshoot tool, you can use the online U-Verse TV support tool to troubleshoot your service.
