Scholastic Launches a New Streaming Service for Kids’ Content

You don’t have to hunt through ten apps anymore to find the Scholastic shows you remember from childhood. Scholastic just launched a branded, free, streaming app aimed at kids and their families.

Here is everything you need to know about this new service.

What Scholastic launched

“Scholastic TV” is officially out. This is a Scholastic-branded AVOD (ad-supported video on demand) streaming app, focusing on children aged 2 to 12 and some family-friendly viewing.

It launches in partnership with 9 Story Media Group, which will supply the content and creative expertise. Future Today is also part of the deal to deliver the platform, app development, and monetization or ads.

Elianne Friend, VP of Digital & Distribution at 9 Story:

“We’re seeing strong demand for quality nostalgic content, and the Scholastic brand is trusted by families everywhere. Future Today was the ideal partner to help us bring Scholastic’s beloved stories to new audiences. We’re excited to build on this momentum and continue expanding Scholastic Entertainment’s incredible catalog across global streaming platforms.”

David Di Lorenzo, SVP Kids & Family at Future Today, added:

“Scholastic books and programs have been a cornerstone of childhood for generations, bringing characters and lessons that stay with us for life. With this new app, we’re ensuring families everywhere will have access to timeless stories that entertain, educate, and inspire – backed by a brand they know and trust.”

What’s in the Scholastic TV catalog?

If you’re judging the service by content, the early catalog delivers two clear advantages:

  • Nostalgia + discovery: The library mixes nostalgic hits with evergreen educational programming that still works for kids today. Clifford, Magic School Bus, Goosebumps, and feature movies give broad appeal across ages and moods.
  • Curriculum-friendly shows: Scholastic built its brand around reading and classroom learning. Many Scholastic/9 Story shows carry learning beats you can pair with at-home reading or simple activities. This makes the service interesting to teachers, librarians and parents who want screen time to feel useful, not just entertaining.

The platform promises continual updates, so content refreshes will likely follow seasonal and marketing needs.

How the app will work

The experience will feel familiar to anyone who uses free CTV channels, but Scholastic’s brand and Future Today’s ad tech aim to keep that experience family-friendly and monetizable.

Here is an overview:

  • AVOD delivery with Future Today: Future Today runs the app front end, ad insertion and distribution to Roku/Fire TV. Scholastic avoids the overhead of building its own streaming backend and ad server from scratch, and advertisers get measurable impressions and targeting options.
  • Brand safety and parental control: Future Today already operates HappyKids and other family channels. Here, they emphasize parental controls and brand safety tools. Expect Scholastic’s app to foreground safe placement and easy-to-use navigation for younger viewers.
  • Platform reach first, expansion later: Scholastic launched on Roku and Amazon Fire TV initially, then added Android/Google Play presence and app store listings. You can expect iOS and Apple TV availability to follow.

Why now is the right time for Scholastic to launch the streaming service

Children’s content demand rose from 2024 to 2025. Appetite for kids’ programming across platforms climbed meaningfully. This is as families consolidate around a smaller set of trusted, free, and paid services. That trend favors curated, brand-safe AVOD offerings.

Also, many viewers now accept ads to avoid multiple subscriptions. Free, trusted channels are attractive for parents who want screen time that feels controlled and cost-free. Future Today’s growth in the AVOD space echoes this shift.
