Reelz+: 5 Things to Know Before You Subscribe

Reelz+ is the network Reelz’s new direct-to-consumer streaming app. It offers live linear Reelz plus on-demand access to the channel’s true-crime docs, celebrity content, and much more.

But does this service’s catalog and live programming match your needs? Here, we share the five essential things to know about the site before you commit your money.

1. Where is Reelz+ available, and how do you access it?

Reelz+ is a paid content service targeted at U.S. viewers. If you live outside the U.S., the platform’s programming is often available through other platforms like Peacock/Disney partners or local broadcasters.

You can access content from Reelz in the following ways:

  • Reelz+ app or its official address from reelzplus.com.
  • Amazon Prime Video Channels, if you prefer consolidated billing.
  • Reelz’s linear feed and most library titles appear inside Peacock, Philo (Movies & More add-on), Frndly TV, and other vMVPDs. Availability and the catalogue vary by service.

2. What content does Reelz+ offer?

Reelz has historically specialized in three overlapping zones. That is true crime/forensics, celebrity-focused documentaries, and law-enforcement reality. The service packages the live Reelz linear stream plus an on-demand library made up of those genres.

You will find original docs, long-running factual series, and the network’s most-watched franchises. Notable titles include:

  • On Patrol: Live and lead-in On Patrol: First Shift: The two titles are the reason many people are subscribing. It’s a live policing docuseries that airs regularly on weekends and drives a lot of new viewers.
  • Most Shocking/Jail/Cops Reloaded: Includes recycled law-enforcement clips and curated “caught on camera” packages
  • Autopsy: The Last Hours of “…”: This is a classic forensic investigation or docudrama of celebrity deaths and high-profile cases.
  • Mysteries and Celebrity documentaries/docuseries: The giant has several long-form specials on famous figures. You’ll find titles like Michael Jackson: Man in the Mirror and Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil: My Story among others.

Note: New episodes of Reelz often air programs on the linear channel and live stream before full on-demand posting. So, if you want to catch premieres as they happen, you need a live feed. Reelz+ actually provides that.

3. What is the pricing of the service?

Reelz+ is a budget-focused streamer platform. It gives you access to every title and live feed at these prices:

  • Reelz+: Direct subscription from their site or apps at $4.99 a month and $49.99 annually.
  • Amazon Prime Video Channel: Available for a similar monthly and annual cost. Purchasing through this avenue places billing and playback inside the Prime Video app.
  • Peacock: As mentioned earlier, you may already get the Reelz linear stream if you subscribe to Peacock Premium / Premium Plus. This costs from $10.99 to $16.99. It gives you access to more content and over 50 live channels.
  • Philo/Frndly/other vMVPDs: These low-cost bundles also include Reelz’s catalogue as part of a larger, inexpensive channel set. That can be cheaper if you want multiple channels in addition to Reelz.

4. What are the compatible devices?

Reelz+ launched with broad device support aimed at standard living-room devices. It supports:

  • Roku: Channel available in the Roku Channel Store.
  • Amazon Fire TV using Prime Video.
  • Android/Google TV from the Play Store listing and casting support.
  • iPhone/iPad/Apple TV on the iOS App Store.
  • Web browsers/ PC/Mac, where you can sign in and stream via reelzplus.com.

5. What’s the actual watching experience of Reelz+?

A low monthly fee is only useful if the viewing features match how you watch. Here is a breakdown of this platform’s UX/UI:

  • Live + On-Demand: Reelz+ bundles these two such that you can watch a show in real time, and then rewatch highlights or documentary specials on demand.
  • Ads: This is an ad-supported network in linear transmission, and the streaming feeds carry advertising. Expect linear-style ad breaks in live streams and ad insertions in VOD.
  • Picture quality: Reelz programming is primarily delivered in HD on linear and streaming. There is no 4K native streaming for the catalog or live TV as a standard feature.
  • DVR: The provider focuses on live + VOD. As such, it does not currently advertise a full cloud-DVR product in the same way other platforms do. That said, several third-party services that carry Reelz (Philo, Frndly, others) include DVR features or limited recording windows under their own plans.
  • Simultaneous streams and device limits: The streaming site has a limit of five active streams.

Things you must consider before you hit Subscribe

Before you purchase a subscription here:

  • Ensure you do not have duplicate content or titles from Peacock, Philo (Movies & More), and Frndly. If you already have one of those services and it carries the live feed plus the episodes you want, you may not need Reelz+.
  • Confirm episode or title availability, as some specials may be absent. If you want a specific documentary or season, search the Reelz+ library or the third-party service’s catalogue before signing up.
  • Understand the ad model, and if you want ad-free viewing, Reelz+ is not the right purchase.
  • Know that Reelz+ is U.S.-targeted. If you’re outside the country, check local broadcasters for Reelz content.
