Shared viewing on DISH is an exciting feature that allows you to mirror two TV sets. As a result, you can watch one program on the first TV and then seamlessly continue it on the second set.
The shared view feature can be handy in several situations, such as when you have a second TV set in your bedroom. However, for this feature to be effective, you must not use your second TV simultaneously with the first one.

Therefore, if you want to watch separate programming on your TVs, you will need to disable the shard view feature. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to do this.
How to turn off shared viewing on DISH
Turning off shared viewing on DISH is very easy. However, you require a few things to turn off this feature:
- First, ensure your DISH Hopper (DVR receiver) is turned on.
- Confirm that your TVs are operating in shared view mode. In shared view, whatever program you play on TV1 (the main TV) will be played on TV2 (the secondary TV).
- You must access the DISH settings from TV1 – TV 2 is a mirror of (and thus, dependent on) TV1; therefore, you cannot change shared view settings on TV2.
Now, you are ready to turn off the shared view on your DVR. To do this:
- Press the Menu button on your remote control.
- Go to the System settings tab.
- Select the Shared View option.
- Turn the slider to OFF (by pressing the OK button once on your remote control) to turn off the shared view feature.
How to switch your receiver to dual mode
Shared viewing on DISH is only available in the “single mode.” Therefore, while turning off the feature will stop mirroring TV1 to TV2, you must complete the process by switching from single to dual mode.

Switching to dual mode disconnects your TV sets, allowing you to use them independently.
To switch your TV to dual mode:
- Check the front control panel of your DISH Hopper under the “Mode” light (in single mode, the light should be under the single square button).
- To switch to dual mode, press the “Mode” button once. The light should move to the two overlapping squares.
NOTE: To switch back to shared view, press the mode button to switch your DISH receiver to single mode. Then, go to the settings and enable the shared view feature.
