At the end of the series, Blanca Flores was released from prison but then arrested again for illegal immigration.
She won her case, but following the reinstatement of her green card, she chose to go to Honduras to be with her boyfriend, Diablo.
Blanca Flores is a main character in the popular show Orange Is the New Black. Laura Gomez plays her. She has a unibrow and is portrayed as dangerous and mentally unstable.
Flores does not shower and smells very bad. Fellow inmates encourage her to shower more often to avoid smelling so bad. She is in prison for being an accessory to manslaughter.
The beginning
Flores, before imprisonment, worked for Millie, a very demanding boss. She had a boyfriend whom Millie did not like, and to get better treatment, she had sex with him in front of her boss.
After that incident, their relationship became better. Millie, while driving, hits and kills a person, and Flores helps clean the car to conceal Millie’s involvement.
Flores was afraid that if Millie went to prison, she would lose her job. Unfortunately, she ends up in jail as an accessory to murder.
Life at Litchfield
In prison, Flores was viewed as mentally unstable and ended up in Psych. That is because she spent a lot of time talking to herself and Diablo (devil) in the only toilet that had a door.
They later found out she had a phone and was talking to her boyfriend named Diablo. She was in love with Diablo, and they even sent each other nudes using that phone.
When Piper (another inmate) gave it to the wardens, she was devastated.
Psych Ward
Due to this problem, she became very unstable and ended up in the psych ward. At the beginning of the second season, she returned from the psych ward and said that she was having hallucinations.
She found out that Daya was pregnant for Bennet, her secret boyfriend. Bennet was a correctional officer and should not have had a relationship with an inmate.
So Flores tried to blackmail him into getting her a phone. Bennet refused, and she then asked him to provide her with pornography.
She joined the Healy group for counselling, but ended up feeling bad and did not return. This was a good thing, as the counselor was homophobic and misogynistic.
The factions
At Litchfield, there were several groups based on ethnicity. There were many Dominicans, and there were fights between them and the caucasian women.
Flores was convinced that the stop-and-frisk regulation in the prison was racist and degrading, and explained it to one of the members of the Dominican group, Maria.
Maria did not want to upset the situation as she had a secret panty-selling business. When Flores realized that her body odor discouraged frisking, she started applying smelling foods from the kitchen to avoid it.
Flores was punished by being made to stand on a table without food or access to a washroom for 3 days.
When the officers discovered that Piper tried to help, she was made to stand next to her. This was very humiliating and highlighted the humiliation that inmates endure in prison.
After that, Flores led a protest against Piscatella, a correctional officer. Unfortunately, one of the inmates, Poussey, was killed, and the SWAT Team killed Piscatella and covered it up.
Trying for a baby
In the sixth season, the prison gynaecologist told Flores that she had few eggs remaining and would probably never have a child. She decided to artificially inseminate herself with Diablo’s sperm.
Since she was in C block, where she could access drugs, she asked Darla to collect a condom of Diablo’s sperm from the visitor’s bathroom in exchange for drugs.
Diablo left the sperm in the bathroom, and when Flores got it, she tried to inseminate herself with Nicky’s help.
A rival group found them, and they were severely beaten. It was after her recovery that she learned she was a candidate for early release.
Pseudo-freedom
The minute she was released, she was arrested by immigration officers and put in an ICE detention facility.
While there, she learned about her rights and asked for time to consult a lawyer. Her lawyer argued that she was not aware that pleading guilty to inciting the riot at Litchfield would affect her immigration status.
Flores won the case and was ready to be with Diablo, but unfortunately, he had already been arrested by ICE.
Diablo’s green card had expired and he had lost his citizenship. He had been sent to Honduras, and Flores went there to be with him instead of staying in the US.
