Tubi TV: 5 Things You Didn’t Know Beyond Free Streaming

Tubi is the kind of app you probably installed or noticed because, well, it’s free. But if you treat it like just another free streaming app, you’re missing a lot.

Below are the top 5 facts about Tubi TV that most viewers don’t know.

1. Tubi isn’t a small free app

Most people still think of Tubi as a small corner of the app store that shows old movies. This is no longer correct.

Fox Corporation has been the new owner of Tubi since March 2020 and has been investing aggressively to grow its audience and ad revenue.

The purchase price was about $440 million. Since then, Tubi has become a major ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) competitor.

In January 2025, Tubi announced it had surpassed 97 million monthly active users.  The giant streamed over 10 billion hours during 2024. In June 2025, it topped 100 million monthly active users and went over a billion hours of total viewing in a month. These landmarks put it on the same level as larger streaming services in terms of reach and attention.

2. The library is enormous

If you open Tubi and assume it’s composed of a few movies, you’ll be surprised. The platform’s catalogue is one of the world’s largest collections of movies and TV episodes, with a library of hundreds of thousands of titles.

That number includes older studio titles, international films and TV, anime, Nollywood/Bollywood, niche cult films, and a growing number of Tubi Originals.

Hence, you’re more likely to find obscure favorites, full genre runs, and international gems that paid platforms often overlook.

Popular titles currently on the platform are:

  • Fast and Furious
  • Call Me by Your Name
  • Mean Girls
  • Clueless
  • Everything Everywhere All at Once
  • Pan’s Labyrinth
  • Dark Secret and Takeout
  • Memento
  • Moonstruck
  • NYPD Blue.
  • Leverage
  • One Piece
  • World War Z
  • Moonlight
  • 12 Angry Men
  • On the Waterfront
  • Heathers
  • Prime Suspect
  • Another Round
  • Boyz N the Hood
  • Coraline
  • The Mask
  • The Fifth Element
  • Edward Scissorhands
  • The Italian Job
  • Goodfellas
  • Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

3. Tubi ads are strategic and interactive

You probably expect ads on a free service. You might not expect how strategic those ads are. Tubi is not a random ad dump but a platform with intentionally light ad loads and direct ad integrations.

The company advertises roughly 4 to 6 minutes of ads per hour. These ads are typically non-skippable but shorter and often more relevant than the chaotic ad breaks you remember from old cable days.

4. Tubi has hundreds of linear FAST channels

Tubi runs a large set of 24/7 linear channels in a FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) model. The platform hosts hundreds of live channels from various genres.

These include thematic channels (horror, true crime, black entertainment, classic TV, event channels (boxing, niche sports), and curated franchise channels.

The “Live TV” section shows scheduled programming the way a cable guide does. This layer is separate from the on-demand catalogue and is intentionally designed to capture passive viewers who prefer to flip channels rather than search.

5. The platform supports multiple devices and locations

Tubi is not available in the US alone. It has rolled out internationally in Australia, Canada, parts of Latin America, and, notably, the United Kingdom in 2024. The platform has struck content deals and distribution partnerships to grow those markets.

In the UK, Tubi launched with a significant catalogue of tens of thousands of titles and has continued to expand it with studio licensing deals.

That international ambition means you’ll see regional catalogs, localized hubs, and sometimes exclusive regional rights that differ from the U.S. offering.

As for devices, Tubi is compatible with smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Vizio, and others), streaming players (Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV/Android TV), game consoles, and web browsers. Many manufacturers include Tubi in their app stores or preinstalled app lists.
