Fox to Let Viewers Stream Local Affiliate Channels Under New Streaming Rollout

Fox Corporation is preparing a major expansion in how you access local programming. Under the new rollout, you will be able to stream live and on-demand content from their local Fox-owned affiliates via a dedicated streaming platform.

This service will be part of the upcoming standalone streaming service, FOX One. Here is everything you need to know about it.

What changes for you

When FOX One launches later this year, you’ll get full access to live feeds and replayable clips. You will get content from all 17 Fox-owned local stations across the U.S. This includes major markets like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more.

Pete Distad, the CEO of FOX One, said:

“We know that FOX has the most loyal and engaged audiences in the industry, and FOX One is designed to reach outside of the pay-TV bundle and deliver all the best FOX-branded content directly to viewers wherever they are.”

That means you’ll be able to watch your local Fox station’s news. It includes morning, evening, and late-night segments on your phone, smart TV, or streaming device.

FOX One rollout timeline

Between now and fall 2025, Fox is unifying affiliate live streaming and on-demand clips into FOX One and its Fox Local app.

The initial expansion builds on a collaboration Fox began with Amazon in 2022. That year in December, the partnership saw the streaming of five stations via Fire TV and Alexa Echo Show.

As of now, the remaining twelve Fox-owned markets, including NYC, LA, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Seattle, and more, are live on Amazon’s platforms.

Fox Local app, launched in May 2023, already collects live local feeds from selected markets, such as Atlanta, Washington, DC, and Detroit, with more coming to Roku, mobile, and web platforms later this year.

As mentioned, the new FOX One is scheduled to launch in fall 2025. This is timed to drop before the NFL and college football seasons.

Pete Distad, CEO of FOX One, explained:

“We have built this platform from the ground up to allow consumers to enjoy and engage with our programming in new and exciting ways, leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance the user experience across the platform.”

The Fox Local app will continue expanding to more devices and markets. It will eventually support all 17 owned stations in the app.

Also, Alexa commands like “Alexa, play Seattle news” or “Alexa, play Detroit news” will become a live shortcut for accessing local broadcasts hands‑free.

What this means for cable subscribers

The company will not replace traditional cable subscribers with FOX One.

Instead, they expect to serve “cord-cutters and cord-nevers” with a modest subscription price. This will expand reach beyond traditional pay TV bundles without undermining existing services
