The Great British Bake Off Presenters and Judges

The Great British Bake Off, or GBBO, is a total British TV staple, right?  Everyone loves it, not just for the amazing cakes and bakes, but also for the presenters and judges.  They’re so funny, knowledgeable, and just generally lovely, and that’s why viewers everywhere adore them.  

So, let’s take a closer look at the people who’ve turned that Bake Off tent into a place where baking magic happens, and we all get those warm, fuzzy feelings.

Current Judges of GBBO

Below are the current judges of The Great British Bake Off;

1. Paul Hollywood

Let’s talk about Paul Hollywood, a GBBO legend since it started in 2010. Those piercing blue eyes and that famous handshake? Total baking icon.

Before TV, he was already a master baker, writing cookbooks and making a name for himself in the baking world. His critiques are super precise, and every baker dreams of getting his approval.

Paul started in his dad’s bakery, where he fell in love with bread-making. He worked his way up, becoming head baker at some fancy hotels.

Then, he went on TV and shared his expertise with everyone, inspiring many people to start baking. 

He keeps his personal life private, but he has a son and is still a big deal in the food world.

2. Prue Leith

Then there’s Prue Leith, who joined the Bake Off team in 2017.  She brought a mountain of culinary experience with her. 

She’s been a restaurateur, chef, and writer – her contributions to the food world are seriously impressive.  Her incredible taste buds and supportive, encouraging way make her a favorite on the show.

Prue was born in South Africa but came to the UK to chase her cooking dreams.  She even founded Leith’s School of Food and Wine!  And if that wasn’t enough, she’s also been a food columnist, a novelist, and a TV presenter.

On a personal note, Prue’s married and has two kids.  She’s famous for her bright, stylish outfits and dedication to getting more people into the kitchen and learning about food.

1. Noel Fielding

Noel Fielding shook things up when he joined GBBO as a presenter in 2017.  He’s known for his quirky, surreal sense of humor and his super unique style, and he brings this fun, whimsical vibe to the Bake Off tent.

Before Bake Off, Noel was already a big name in comedy, especially from “The Mighty Boosh” and “Never Mind the Buzzcocks.” He’s not just funny, though – he’s also a talented artist, doing painting and music.

In his personal life, Noel’s been with radio presenter Lliana Bird for a long time, and they have two kids.  Even with GBBO, he’s always working on other creative projects.

2. Alison Hammond

Alison Hammond joined the Bake Off crew in 2023, bringing her amazing energy and charm.  She’s got this larger-than-life personality, and she instantly clicked with the bakers and everyone watching.

Alison first became famous on Big Brother in 2002, and then she had a super successful TV career. 

She’s a household name because of her presentation on This Morning, where her funny and engaging interviews made her a fan favorite.

On the personal side, Alison is a devoted mom to her son, Aiden.  She’s open about her journey in the entertainment world and often shares stories that people connect with. 

Her warmth and enthusiasm make her a perfect fit for the Bake Off tent.

Former Judges and Presenters

Below are GBBO judges and presenters who brought laughter and warmth to the tent.

1. Mary Berry

Mary Berry was one of the original judges on The Great British Bake Off from 2010 to 2016.  Everyone just loved her! As a true baking expert, she brought warmth and elegance to the show, along with all her expertise.

She’s a legendary food writer and TV presenter.  

Mary’s written over 70 cookbooks!  She’s considered one of Britain’s top baking gurus.  Her kind critiques and incredible knowledge made her a total star on GBBO.

On a more personal note, Mary’s been married to Paul Hunnings for over 50 years, which is amazing! They have three children.  She’s still on cooking shows and is a major influence in the food world.

2. Sandi Toksvig

Sandi Toksvig co-hosted The Great British Bake Off from 2017 to 2020; she was fantastic!  Her sharp wit and warm personality shone through. 

Her quick jokes and supportive attitude made her a hit with the bakers and everyone watching at home.

Sandi’s a comedian, writer, and broadcaster, and she’s had a long and successful career in British media. 

You might know her from hosting tons of panel shows, like QI. She’s also done a lot of work in radio, theater, and activism.

On a personal note, Sandi is married to psychotherapist Debbie Toksvig, and they have three kids.  She’s a passionate advocate for gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights.

3. Mel Giedroyc

Mel Giedroyc was one of the original hosts on GBBO, along with Sue Perkins, from 2010 to 2016.  Her playful humor and genuine affection for the bakers were a big part of what made the show so warm and friendly.

Mel comes from a comedy and acting background, and she and Sue Perkins often worked together as a comedy duo.  She’s also hosted lots of TV and radio programs and has been in various theater productions.

On the personal side, Mel is married to Ben Morris, and they have two daughters. She’s still working in television, mostly as a presenter and comedian.

4. Sue Perkin

Sue Perkins co-hosted GBBO from 2010 to 2016 with Mel Giedroyc, and they were such a fantastic, iconic duo!  Fans absolutely loved them. 

Sue’s quick wit, warm personality, and the way she supported the bakers were a huge part of what made the show so successful.

Sue’s a comedian, writer, and broadcaster, and she’s really well-known for her work with Mel, doing all sorts of comedy and presenting gigs. 

She’s also written books and hosted travel documentaries, and you’ve probably seen her on panel shows, too.

On a more personal note, Sue has been in a long-term relationship with journalist Anna Richardson.  She’s still very active in British media, working across television, radio, and writing.

These presenters and judges have played a crucial role in making The Great British Bake Off the beloved show it is today. Each of them has left their mark, shaping the series into a heartwarming and entertaining celebration of baking.
